The Offspring Reach #1 With 'Hit That'

First Single From RIAA GOLD Album, Splinter,
Is Group's First #1 On Columbia Records

NEW YORK, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- "Hit That," the first single from The
Offspring's seventh album, Splinter, has reached the #1 spot on this week's
Modern Rock Tracks chart after 12 weeks at radio. "Hit That" was the #1 Most
Added single at both the Modern Rock and Rock formats shortly after its
release to radio in November of 2003. The single has fueled, in part, the
ongoing success of Splinter, which was recently certified GOLD by the RIAA for
sales of more than 500,000 copies.
The rise of "Hit That" to #1 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart marks the
latest in a series of amazing milestones for The Offspring, who first hit the
#1 spot on the Modern Rock Tracks chart in 1994 with "Come Out and Play (Keep
'em Separated)" from the group's multi-platinum breakthrough album Smash
(Epitaph Records, 1994). With the group's #1 Modern Rock hits book-ending a
full decade, The Offspring remain, according to Billboard (December 13, 2003),
among " ... only a handful of rock acts that emerged in the early '90s ...
(that) have released music that has maintained its relevance at rock radio."
One of the few rock bands in the world to achieve ongoing international
platinum status while maintaining credibility, viability and enormous
popularity with oft-times fickle alt-rock audiences, The Offspring began their
string of success with the aforementioned release, Smash, and have gone on to
sell over 32 million albums worldwide.
The group has also achieved Top 5 status or better on the Modern Rock
Tracks chart with: "Self Esteem" (#4, 1994); "Gone Away" (#4, 1997); "Pretty
Fly (For A White Guy)" (#3, 1998); "Why Don't You Get A Job?" (#4, 1999); and
"Original Prankster" (#2, 2000).
The next single scheduled to be released from Splinter will be "(Can't Get
My) Head Around You," which will put to the test singer Dexter Holland's
long-standing superstition that the single the band releases with song titles
in parentheses are their most successful. Though "(Can't Get My) Head Around
You" is scheduled to impact radio on February 24, the track has already been
gathering early airplay on Modern Rock stations coast-to-coast.
Look for The Offspring, who have been promoting Splinter overseas since
its release, to launch a full scale North American tour in April.
