Another Contract Award for Raytheon in China

                     MSSR system ordered for Suneteyouqi

HARLOW, Essex, Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Systems Limited (RSL) has
secured yet another contract for a Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar
(MSSR) in the People's Republic of China.
This latest contract, signed on the 18th January with the Air Traffic
Management Bureau (ATMB) of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC)
in Beijing, calls for an MSSR system to be installed at Suneteyouqi, in Inner
Mongolia. This is part of a new radar chain for the trans-polar route for
traffic to and from North America, which will reduce flying time between the
two continents.
The system at Suneteyouqi, which will operational by the end of October
2002, will be the 23rd MSSR that RSL has sold to the PRC. This contract
closely follows the sale of an MSSR for installation at Kunming.
Paul McCarthy, RSL's ATC marketing manager for China, said, "China is
experiencing rapid growth in its commercial airline industry and this means
major expansion and upgrading of the existing ATC infrastructure. The CAAC
demands high quality and strict delivery timescales for its equipment both of
which RSL is delighted to be able to provide".
Raytheon Systems Limited is the UK-based subsidiary of Raytheon Company.
With around 1,700 employees throughout the country, RSL services both defence
and commercial markets. Raytheon is a major supplier to the UK Ministry of
Defence and has won programmes such as ASTOR (Airborne Stand-Off Radar) and
SIFF (Successor Identification Friend or Foe). The company also participates
as a team player in bids for other programmes such as the Royal Navy's Future
Carrier (CVF), Co-operative Engagement Capability (UK CEC), Javelin and
Precision Guided Bomb. RSL also designs, develops and manufactures ATC radar,
identification systems and anti-jam navigation systems. It is a specialist
supplier of semiconductors and power modules, manufacturing complex electronic
systems, sub-systems and assemblies, and undertakes aircraft servicing and
modification.
