Verizon Business Introduces First Network-Based Firewall that can be Customized in Real Time

On-Demand Security Helps Businesses Enable Communication and Collaboration
                   With Customers, Partners and Suppliers

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- As more businesses rely on data
moving between the Internet and their private wide area networks (WAN),
Verizon Business is helping companies gain better control over the security
of their communications among customers, suppliers and partners. With the
introduction of Secure Gateway - Firewall (custom), the industry's first
network-based custom firewall, U.S.-based multinational customers can
centrally adjust security policies in real time across their global IP
networks.
"Our Secure Gateway suite of services has made Verizon Business a
leader in delivering network-based security solutions that help companies
securely and selectively exchange IP traffic between Private IP and the
public Internet," said Tom Roche, vice president of marketing for network
voice and data services with Verizon Business. "Secure Gateway - Firewall
(custom) can help companies shield their networks from harmful traffic
while giving our customers more control to respond to their changing
network requirements."
Verizon Business is announcing this news today at the RSA Conference
2007 security trade show in San Francisco, where it is also introducing, in
a separate news release, the expansion of its Denial of Service Defense
Mitigation Services to Europe.

                       Secure Gateway-Firewall (custom)
Verizon Business' Secure Gateway-Firewall (custom) service provides
companies with a simple Web-based Graphic User Interface (GUI) to define
and modify policies to control the public Internet traffic that they choose
to allow on their private network.
Customers can centrally control both inbound and outbound traffic on
demand, consolidating network access points and eliminating the need for
multiple Internet connections and premises-based firewalls. As a result,
customers can control costs and improve administrative efficiencies.
Ocean Beauty, based in Seattle, is a leading seafood and food processor
that plans to migrate to this new service. With offices around the world,
Ocean Beauty has implemented Verizon's Private IP service and is looking to
further centralize control of the company's security policies.
"Verizon Business' Secure Gateway Firewall service provides us with a
centralized and cost-effective security solution," said Sentoso Sendjaja,
IT director, Ocean Beauty Seafoods Inc. "It has enabled our enterprise
resource planning conversion, which ultimately gives business units
complete visibility into mission-critical data, allowing us to enhance
communications, centralize applications and improve overall efficiency.
"In addition, since our IT resources are centralized at our company's
headquarters, we needed a solution that could extend network
troubleshooting capabilities to dispersed business units with limited
technical expertise. Secure Gateway-Firewall has met all of our needs."
Sendaja added, "Now, the custom firewall will allow us the added ability to
control our firewall policies in real time and will provide the flexibility
we require."
Verizon Business' Secure Gateway Firewall services can be used with all
four Verizon Business networks: Private IP, vBNS+, Frame Relay and ATM.
Customers benefit from extending their communications reach by securely
exchanging traffic between each of these private networks and Verizon
Business' global Internet backbone.
"Verizon Business already offers an impressive array of network-based
security offerings for large-business and government customers," said Brian
Washburn, principal analyst -- network services with Current Analysis.
"Many of these customers want the ability to relax and restrict the flow of
data across their networks, as dictated by their security needs. Verizon
Business' new custom firewall offering gives them that control."
                             Secure Gateway Suite
Verizon Business' Secure Gateway enables a suite of network-based
offerings that deliver advanced IP services and applications to Private IP
and other Verizon Network services. Secure Gateway offers customers the
ability to exchange data selectively between public and private networks in
a secure and controlled manner. Using robust firewalls and encryption
engines, the Gateway securely facilitates the movement of
customer-authorized data from one network to another. This approach is
useful to companies that want to take advantage of the private network
infrastructure, while also securely accessing the public Internet.
In addition to Secure Gateway - Firewall, Verizon offers two other
Secure Gateway services -- Retail and Remote Office, and Mobile User -- all
accessible via a single customer port. Secure Gateway - Retail and Remote
Office securely connects a customer's fixed remote locations to the
customer's Private IP or other Verizon private network, leveraging the
public Internet for wider reach and lower cost, while also offering
in-depth WAN analysis reporting of network performance. Secure Gateway -
Mobile User gives remote employees secure connectivity to company data.
Verizon's Secure Gateway services are backed by stringent service level
agreements (SLAs).
Verizon Business delivers world-class data and IP services to help
business and government customers transform their business operations.
Using Verizon Business' advanced local-to-global network, companies have
