SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Delta Air Lines
(NYSE: DAL) will implement Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) security
initiatives for non-stop arriving flights and all departure flights for Salt
Lake City International Airport during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.
As part of the ongoing security enhancements, customers must remain seated
during the last 30 minutes of any flight into Salt Lake City and the first 30
minutes of any flight out of Salt Lake City. The requirement will be in
effect until Feb 28, 2002.
"Delta has been working closely with the FAA, Salt Lake City (SLC) airport
authority and other government agencies during the past year to ensure the
safety and security of our employees, customers and facilities during the
Olympic Winter Games," said Jack Daulton, Delta's vice president-Corporate
Security.
In an effort to increase customer convenience and maintain the highest
level of security, additional ticket counters and baggage screening areas will
operate. The International Arrivals Building also will operate additional
carry-on screening lanes. Screening technology has been added to assist in
the process, and Delta has developed a thorough process for fully utilizing
the technology to ensure 100 percent compliance with government regulations.
During normal operations, Delta transports approximately 24,000 passengers
daily into the Salt Lake City International Airport, of which 65 percent
connect to other flights. Because of the Olympic Winter Games, passenger
travel to Salt Lake City is expected to nearly triple.
SLC operations during the Olympic Winter Games will provide Delta and the
industry with added insight into enhancing aviation security. Delta believes
that ongoing cooperation and dialogue with local airport authorities,
government officials and law enforcement agencies will continue to be
essential in creating a viable security system.
