SEATTLE, Feb. 6, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CIGNA HealthCare today
announced the appointment of Mary Kay O'Neill, M.D., as the new medical
executive for the company's Pacific Northwest region. Based in Seattle, Dr.
O'Neill will oversee member health care and services and work to strengthen
the CIGNA HealthCare provider network in Washington.
"The addition of Dr. O'Neill demonstrates CIGNA's renewed focus on the
Pacific Northwest market," said Daryl Edmonds, regional manager for CIGNA
HealthCare's Pacific Northwest region. "We're excited to have someone with
her talent and experience in the health care industry on our team."
Dr. O'Neill brings significant experience to the position, previously
serving as the medical director for the Uniform Medical Plan within the
Washington HealthCare Authority. She is also a former investigator with the
Health Policy Research Center at the University of Washington where she was
involved with the Alliance for the Reduction of Cancer.
Her clinical career has included clinical faculty positions at the
University of Washington Medical School and the section head of the
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center at the Virginia Mason Medical
Center.
Dr. O'Neill received her medical degree from the University of
Washington Medical School, where she completed her residency in Physical
Medicine and Rehabilitation. She earned both a master's of business
administration and a master's degree in rehabilitation from the University
of Washington. Active in professional and civic associations, Dr. O'Neill
has served on the Board of Directors for the Washington Physician Health
Plan and Kids Chance of Washington and on the Board of Trustees for State
Medical Association.
