U.S. Same Store Sales Increased 5.9%
WARRENDALE, Pa., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ --
American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. (Nasdaq: AEOS) today announced total sales for
the five weeks ended February 3, 2001 increased 73.1% to a record
$72.3 million from $41.8 million for the four-week period ended January 29,
2000. Total sales for the five weeks ended February 3, 2001 includes
$6.4 million from the Thrifty's/Bluenotes operation that was acquired
effective October 29, 2000.
American Eagle Outfitters' U.S. sales for the five weeks ended February 3,
2001 increased 57.6% to a record $65.8 million from $41.8 million for the
four-week period ended January 29, 2000. AE U.S. same store sales for the
January 2001 period increased 5.9% compared to the corresponding five-week
period last year. This compares to a 9.6% same store sales increase in
January 2000.
Total sales for the fourth quarter ended February 3, 2001, which was
fourteen weeks, increased 48.6% to $424.2 million from $285.4 million for the
fourth quarter ended January 29, 2000, which was thirteen weeks. Fourth
quarter sales include $35.5 million from the Thrifty's/Bluenotes operation.
American Eagle Outfitters' U.S. sales for the fourth quarter ended
February 3, 2001, which was fourteen weeks, increased 36.2% to $388.7 million
from $285.4 million for the fourth quarter ended January 29, 2000, which was
thirteen weeks. Same store sales for the fourth quarter of 2000 rose 11.3%
compared to the same period last year. This compares to a 14.4% same store
sales increase for the fourth quarter last year.
Total sales for the fifty-three week period ended February 3, 2001
increased 31.5% to $1,093.9 million from $832.1 million for the fifty-two week
period ended January 29, 2000. Total sales includes $35.5 million from the
Thrifty's/Bluenotes operation that was acquired effective October 29, 2000.
American Eagle Outfitters' U.S. sales for the fifty-three week period
ended February 3, 2001 increased 27.2% to $1,058.5 million from $832.1 million
for the corresponding fifty-two week period last year. U.S. same store sales
for the 2000 period rose 5.8% compared to the corresponding fifty-three week
period last year.
