Company's Seamless Service and Groundbreaking Ticket Request System
Demonstrates Company's Ticket Service Power
COSTA MESA, Calif., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- As the exclusive
ticketing service provider for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, Tickets.com,
Inc. (Nasdaq: TIXX) powered the sale of over 1.4 million tickets and a record
$64 million sold online, announced Tickets.com CEO, Ron Bension. The record
sales marks the first time consumers could purchase tickets online in 'real-
time' for an Olympic Games. The Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002
Olympic Winter Games (SLOC) confirmed that total ticket revenue will meet
expectations of $180 million dollars.
Through its partnership with SLOC, Tickets.com has provided exclusive
ticketing services for the 2002 Games, the most complex ticketing event in the
world. Tickets.com provided services across the entire spectrum of
distribution outlets including Internet, mail and telephone orders.
"Tickets.com has serviced the Olympics with extraordinary state-of-the-art
software tools to simplify the ticketing process for consumers and our
organizing committee, enabling high customer satisfaction and sales which far
exceeded our initial predictions," said Martin Schueren, Director of Ticketing
for the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. "In
a year of particular meaning for attendees to enjoy and honor athletes from
around the world, we are especially appreciative of Tickets.com's flawless
service."
When the partnership between Tickets.com and SLOC was announced in January
2000, it marked the first time in history when Olympic tickets were available
in real-time over the Internet. Tickets.com also created an innovative and
effective online system to replace the antiquated paper request process
customers were required to submit in the past. Using the Tickets.com website
infrastructure consumers requested tickets, and a randomized selection process
ensured that ticket distribution to the U.S. public was equitable. This
process was enabled through Tickets.com's proprietary online
"Virtual Wristband(TM)" technology.
"We are honored to provide customers with a seamless and efficient means
to access and attend the most significant live event of the year," said
Bension. "Our ability to manage and service an event of this magnitude is a
testament to Tickets.com's Internet distribution capabilities, competent
customer service team, and proven technical infrastructure."
