PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Worldwide Flight Services, the
world's leading independent aviation services provider, has been selected to
provide passenger, ramp and de-icing services for Pro Air, Inc. at
Philadelphia International Airport (PHL).
The new Worldwide contract began Feb. 1. The company will provide
services for Pro Air's operations at PHL, which include flights to Detroit
City Airport (DET). Worldwide will service 14 flights per week and will
increase its employee base by 14, cross-utilizing current employees to fully
serve this new client.
"We are pleased to add Pro Air to our growing list of 22 clients at the
Philadelphia airport," said Doug Pinckney, Worldwide Flight Services' senior
vice president, sales and marketing. "Our Worldwide team at Philadelphia is
doing a first class job, and they're committed to making sure that Pro Air's
flights run smoothly."
"Worldwide Flight Services has an excellent reputation, and we're looking
forward to a mutually successful business relationship. They will play an
important role as Pro Air continues to enhance services for our growing base
of customers in this region," said Jim Walsh, vice president of customer
service for Pro Air.
Pro Air began service in 1997 with a brand-new Boeing 737 aircraft. Its
initial flight linked congestion-free Detroit City Airport with
Baltimore/Washington, D.C., and marked the beginning of an airfare revolution
that reduced ticket prices by up to 85 percent on routes served by the
airline.
Today, the airline offers everyday low fares, a simplified fare structure,
affordable first-class tickets, assigned seating, 100 percent ticketless
travel, extra legroom and one of the youngest fleets of aircraft in the
country. The airline operates four Boeing 737s, employs approximately
440 people and serves 10 airports including Atlanta, Baltimore/Washington,
D.C., Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, New York LaGuardia, Newark, Orlando,
Philadelphia and Seattle.
Worldwide Flight Services is a world leader in comprehensive, top-quality
ground services for the aviation industry. The company provides a full range
of services on behalf of 300 air carriers and airport authorities in
92 locations around the world. These services include cargo, passenger and
ramp handling services, as well as technical assistance including passenger
boarding bridge maintenance, fueling and management services.
Worldwide Flight Services was acquired on March 31, 1999 by a private
equity investment fund managed by Castle Harlan, Inc., a New York-based
merchant bank.
Also in 1999, Worldwide acquired Miami Aircraft Support, Inc. in Florida
and Aerolink International, Inc. of Pittsburgh, Pa., continuing to strengthen
its position as one of the world's largest independent aviation service
providers.
