The insightful, interactive workshops offer an excellent opportunity for
in-depth technical training on how to design real-time systems with industry-
leading Xilinx Virtex-4(TM), Virtex-II Pro(TM), and Spartan-3(TM) Platform
FPGAs. During the 90-minute sessions, each attendee will have access to
instructors and a programmable hardware platform to design, debug, and boot
with a live embedded system.
Three Xilinx Embedded Workshops, each highlighting a different
application, will be offered during ESC SF at the Moscone Center on Tuesday,
March 8 through Thursday, March 10, 2005. Workshop attendees will be trained
on using intelligent, platform-aware design environments, including the recent
award-winning Xilinx Platform Studio embedded tool suite and/or the innovative
Xilinx System Generator for DSP solution.
Implement a Virtex-4 FX PowerPC System with Floating Point Co-Processor
The new Virtex-4 FX delivers unprecedented FPGA embedded processing with
new performance features that include integrated dual PowerPC cores operating
at the highest operating frequencies, coupled with the revolutionary Xilinx
Auxiliary Processing Unit (APU). The presentation will demonstrate
application-specific hardware acceleration that enables dramatic improvements
in performance while also substantially reducing cost and power. The
interactive workshop will also feature a brief presentation of the Virtex-4 FX
FPGA and direct hands-on experience implementing a PowerPC processor system.
The design will be created and target actual hardware using the Platform
Studio tool suite via the FPU with a graphical display of the output.
Accelerating IDCT Software Application using Configurable MicroBlaze
32-bit RISC Processor
Learn how to unleash the power of the Fast Simplex Link (FSL) port on the
Xilinx MicroBlaze soft processor solution. The simple, yet elegant, solution
enables designers to add dedicated low-latency co-processing engines tuned
specifically for their application. Attendees will experience first-hand how
to achieve at least a 10X performance improvement of an inverse discrete
cosine transform (IDCT) algorithm utilizing the popular Spartan-3 platform.
High-Performance DSP on an FPGA Made Easy
Designers will learn now to implement high-performance DSP designs using
the breakthrough Virtex-4 FPGAs. By leveraging the innovative System Generator
for DSP tool suite, IP cores, and hardware from Xilinx, even novice FPGA
designers can quickly experience the capabilities and ease-of-use of Xilinx
DSP design solutions.
