New Validations and Conformance Address Cryptography Requirements
of the U.S. Federal Government
BEDFORD, Mass., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- RSA Security Inc.
(Nasdaq: RSAS) today announced that RSA BSAFE(R) Crypto-C Micro Edition (ME)
software solution now meets the Suite B cryptography requirements issued by
the U.S. National Security Agency. Suite B provides a common set of
cryptographic algorithms that the technology industry can leverage to build
solutions that meet the security needs of the U.S. federal government.
RSA Security achieved Suite B conformance by adding elliptic curve
support, among other required items, to RSA BSAFE Crypto-C ME software. These
efforts demonstrate RSA Security's commitment to serving U.S. federal
government agencies by ensuring that the company's cryptographic technology
adheres to published standards more quickly and comprehensively than open
source and other commercial alternatives.
RSA BSAFE Solutions Achieve Additional FIPS 140-2 Validations
RSA Security also announced additional Federal Information Processing
Standards (FIPS) 140-2 validations within the line of RSA BSAFE encryption
solutions. The FIPS 140-2 standards were developed by the National Institute
of Standards and Technology (NIST), and are required of any cryptography
solution used by U.S. federal government departments and agencies.
Specifically, FIPS 140-2 certificates have been awarded to RSA BSAFE
Crypto-J 3.5 module, RSA BSAFE Crypto-J 3.5 Java Cryptography Extensions (JCE)
provider module and RSA BSAFE Crypto-C ME 2.0 software module. With RSA BSAFE
Crypto-J 3.5 JCE, Java developers may now leverage a standards-based
development interface to ensure their applications will meet the FIPS 140
requirements. By being one of the first companies to achieve FIPS 140-2
validation for a cryptography module supporting the open JCE standard, RSA
Security offers customers using the Sun(R) Java(TM) platform a more familiar
and reliable alternative compared to open source and other commercial
offerings.
"RSA Security strives to deliver the most flexible and robust encryption
solutions to government and commercial organizations worldwide, and we are
proud to lead the industry in leveraging emerging cryptography
specifications," said Rick Welch, vice president, Developer Division at RSA
Security. "Suite B conformance and continued FIPS 140-2 validations
underscore our commitment to delivering encryption solutions that meet the
needs of our key constituents, including the U.S. federal government."
