Sierra Pacific Resources Announces Leader of Renewable Energy Activities

     New Position Responsible for Renewable Portfolio Standard Compliance

    LAS VEGAS, Feb. 9  /PRNewswire/ -- Sierra Pacific Resources (NYSE: SRP),
the parent company of Sierra Pacific Power Company and Nevada Power Company,
announced today that Thomas Fair has been promoted to the position of
executive, renewable energy.
    "This newly created position is an important part of our company's ongoing
commitment to identify alternative sources of energy supply, to further
renewable energy development in Nevada and to achieve success in complying
with our state's renewable portfolio standard," said Roberto Denis, senior
vice president of energy supply.  "Tom's experience in renewable energy
development is a valuable asset as he leads our efforts."
    Fair was formerly the director of environmental services for the company.
He joined Sierra Pacific in 2004 after serving as the development director in
a joint venture with RES North America, LLC, a renewable energy development
company.  He spent six years in the development of wind energy projects in the
West and Midwest.  His career, which spans over 30 years, includes experience
with companies such as Florida Power and Light and Niagara Mohawk Power
Corporation where he headed the environmental affairs departments and FPL
Energy where he was responsible for project development for conventional and
renewable power generation projects.

    Headquartered in Nevada, Sierra Pacific Resources is a holding company
whose principal subsidiaries are Nevada Power Company, the electric utility
for most of southern Nevada, and Sierra Pacific Power Company, the electric
utility for most of northern Nevada and the Lake Tahoe area of California.
Sierra Pacific Power Company also distributes natural gas in the Reno-Sparks
area of northern Nevada.  Other subsidiaries include the Tuscarora Gas
Pipeline Company, which owns 50 percent interest in an interstate natural gas
transmission partnership and several unregulated energy services companies.
