                                  Leadership

EE Times Announces Avnet, Cadence and Wind River as Sponsors for ACE Awards
                                   Program

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CMP Media's EE Times
today announced that Wilfred J. Corrigan, founder and Chairman of the Board of
LSI Logic Corporation, will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at
the second Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards, for his
contributions to the semiconductor industry for nearly five decades. The award
will be presented on April 4, at the ACE Awards gala during the Embedded
Systems Conference Silicon Valley.
"It is an honor for us to be recognizing Wilf Corrigan, the senior
statesman of the semiconductor industry, with a Lifetime Achievement award at
this year's ACE Awards," said Brian Fuller, publisher and editor-in-chief, EE
Times. "He is a bold pioneer, whose identification of ASICs as an emerging
market led not only to the founding of his successful company, but to the
explosion of a new type of silicon design."
Since the 1960s, Wilf Corrigan has been a recognized and celebrated
innovator in the semiconductor industry. As the principal founder, CEO (until
May 2005) and Chairman of LSI Logic since 1981, he not only pioneered the ASIC
(Application Specific Integrated Circuit) business as it is known today, but
also fostered the fabless model that is gaining great traction in the
aftermath of the record industry downturn of 2001.
Emigrating to the U.S. from the U.K. in 1960, after graduating from the
Imperial College of Science in London, Corrigan began his career at Transitron
Corporation. He moved into management positions at Motorola Semiconductor, and
in 1968, moved to Fairchild Semiconductor with other Motorola executives,
later to be known as "Hogan's Heroes." Corrigan was named General Manager of
Fairchild's Semiconductor Division in 1970, and appointed to President and CEO
of Fairchild Camera and Instrument in 1974. The title of Chairman was added in
1977. In 1981 he founded LSI Logic with $6 million in venture capital. LSI
Logic applied innovative software and large computing power to automate the
custom design process. Throughout its history, LSI has introduced many
revolutionary technologies, including innovations surrounding standard-cell
ASICs, system-on-a-chip and platform ASICs. Today LSI is recognized as a
leader in providing silicon-to-systems products for the Consumer and Storage
markets.
In addition to his accomplishments in the industry, Corrigan is a
recognized community leader and industry statesman, being one of the founders
of the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) in 1977, with Intel's Robert
Noyce, AMD's Jerry Sanders and National Semiconductor's Charlie Sporck. The
SIA was formed to serve as a U.S. industry advocate on a wide variety of
issues including international trade, taxation and technology development. In
the 1980s, the SIA was at the forefront of the industry-government effort to
ensure the survival of the U.S. industry in the face of widespread movement of
below-cost semiconductors onto global markets.
"I am honored to be recognized by the editors of EE Times with a Lifetime
Achievement Award," said Corrigan. "I am pleased to have had the opportunity
to not only work in the U.S. semiconductor industry, but also to have
participated in U.S. technology policy through my work with the SIA, to help
advance the industry."
The EE Times ACE Awards Lifetime Achievement Award candidates were
selected by the editors of EE Times based on their individual accomplishments
over the course of their careers.
