Application Costs
LEXINGTON, Mass., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Rational Software (Nasdaq: RATL) today announced that AWB Limited (formerly
the Australian Wheat Board) has utilized Rational Suite(R) and the Rational

By combining the power of Rational Suite with the Rational Services
Organization's extensive knowledge of Microsoft .NET, AWB saved 40 percent to
50 percent on general application costs and completed the entire project on
time and under budget.
Rational Suite empowered AWB's project team to streamline its development
activities with Rational Unified Process and effectively gather and manage
requirements, build a scalable and reusable system architecture, track defects
and changes, and test its applications. AWB's project team consisted of a
staff project manager and business analyst, as well as an outsourced
development team that included up to 20 developers.
"By leveraging Rational's solutions and expertise, we created an
innovative and scalable Web-based system with improved workflow management and
significant communications efficiencies," said Tony Clement, general manager,
e-business, AWB Limited. "Rational enabled AWB to achieve our goals on time
and under budget. We will never embark on another e-business project without
Rational."
By using Rational's solutions to create the software architecture for the
Grain Centre System, AWB was able to achieve approximately 80 percent
reusability for its pilot On-Farm Storage System application. The On-Farm
Storage System was completed under budget and delivered in six weeks - an
extremely short timeframe for an application of its complexity.
"AWB migrated its systems to Microsoft .NET to help create new
efficiencies in the handling of grain," said Tom Button, corporate vice
president for the Developer and Platform Evangelism Division at Microsoft
Corp. "The use of Microsoft .NET has helped make AWB more agile and
competitive in the international marketplace, and has enabled AWB to save
significantly on hardware and operational costs."
"AWB is a clear example of a business that is using technology to create
competitive differentiation and achieve real business benefits," said Eric
Schurr, chief marketing officer, Rational Software. "Rational's solutions have
allowed AWB to shorten its time to value."
