LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. and MALVERN, Pa., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- USA
Technologies (OTC Bulletin Board: USTT) and Motient Corporation (OTC: MNCP.PK)
today launched an incentive program giving vending operators the opportunity
to prove for themselves the added benefits of cashless vending.
Following early success of their previously publicized joint initiative to
bring 10,000 vending machines online -- using USA Technologies' e-Port(TM)
cashless payments system and Motient's wireless data network -- both
companies have expanded their marketing activities and are now targeting
innovative vending operators across 50 key markets.
The joint promotional initiative offers select vending operators the
opportunity to test Motient-enabled e-Port(TM) cashless vending machines by
inputting their own vending data into a financial model that projects returns
from the addition of cashless vending. They will then be offered
e-Ports(TM) at promotional pricing to validate these returns.
The two companies are targeting 1,000 new e-Port(TM) locations over the
next 90 days and many have already been pre- sold.
Early results from Motient-enabled e-Ports have already successfully
proven the business case for the addition of credit/debit cards in vending,
especially where machines sell products priced over $1. Results show:
-- The Motient-enabled e-Port vending machines, installed late 2003, are
proving to be increasingly popular with consumers using debit and
credit cards, and orders for more placements are growing. Recent
examples of success are $2 vends at airports are generating as much as
$5,000 in cashless transactions a year;
-- $3 cash only vending machines are benefiting from the addition of
credit/debit cards, changing the business model from what was an under
performing account, into good profitability; and
-- Cashless transactions are delivering significantly higher returns for
a major Orlando theme park and its innovative operator.
"These are just some examples of where the addition of credit/debit cards
is creating increased value and opportunity for vending machine operators,
with consumers benefiting from greater convenience, ease of use and security,
generating increased customer satisfaction," said Michael D. Fabbri, Senior
Vice President of Sales, Motient Corporation " Operators are discovering the
payback on the investment is less than a year, and are seeing substantial
incremental commissions for their customers," he said.
"Based upon the excellent results coming in from early adopters of
cashless vending, this incentive will allow our customers to see for
themselves the significant success they can enjoy," said Jim Turner, Vice
President and Channel Manager, Intelligent Vending(TM), USA Technologies.
"Good news travels fast in the vending industry and this experience across the
country will prove beyond doubt that cashless is the preferred payment
solution for today's consumer," he said.
