ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Alaska Housing Finance
Corporation (AHFC) has awarded $5.93 million in grants and project funding for
housing development, enabling approximately 185 units of housing for families,
the homeless, seniors, and persons with mental and physical disabilities to be
developed.
The funds were awarded under the GOAL Program (which includes HOME grants,
Senior Citizens Housing Development Fund (SCHDF) grants, and Low-Income
Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC)); Homeless Assistance Program grants; and Special
Needs Housing Fund grants.
Of the 13 applications received, AHFC made awards to eight applicants. The
majority of projects are for new construction, while the Anchorage and Seward
projects are acquisition/rehabilitation. One-hundred forty units will be for
family housing, while the WASSI project in Wasilla will be senior housing, and
the Homer project, special needs. AHFC will also provide more than
$6.5 million in long-term financing for the projects.

*The tax credits are available to the developer for 10 years, essentially
bringing the total allocation to $23,198,600.
AHFC is a self-supporting public corporation with offices in 16
communities statewide. It provides statewide financing for multi-family
complexes, congregate facilities, and single-family homes, with special loan
options for low- and moderate-income borrowers, veterans, teachers, nurses,
and those living in rural areas of the state. It also provides energy and
weatherization programs, low-income rental assistance in 17 communities, and
special programs for the homeless and those seeking to become self-sufficient.
AHFC contributes more than $100 million annually to Alaska's State budget
revenues through cash transfers, capital projects and debt-service payments.
