Companies Extend Collaboration to Next Generation of Mass-Market Feature
Phones
SAN DIEGO and BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- SKY MobileMedia
announces today that the SKY-MAP(TM) Mobile Applications Software Platform
has been integrated with TI's OMAPV1035 single-chip GSM/GPRS/EDGE solution.
This pre-integrated system enables TI's OEM and ODM customers to rapidly
develop, customize, and launch feature-rich handsets based upon the
OMAPV1035 single-chip solution.
"SKY MobileMedia is a leader in providing complete software solutions
to the wireless industry, so TI is pleased that SKY-MAP is now available on
the OMAPV1035 solution," said Victor Epifani, General Manager,
GSM/GPRS/EDGE Business Unit, Texas Instruments. "Combined with TI's
OMAP-Vox and DRP(TM) single-chip technology, this solution will reduce
time-to-market and R&D costs for our customers designing the next
generation of feature phones."
Building upon the market leadership of the SKY-MAP solutions for TI's
LoCosto(TM) platform and OMAPV1030 solution, the SKY-MAP software solution
for the OMAPV1035 single-chip solution includes the market-tested SKY-MMI
which provides call management and PIM functions, SMS, and support for
multiple Asian and European languages, as well as the market-proven SKY-MAP
middleware engines for browsing, MMS, and more. SKY-MAP multimedia
functionality includes music, camera, video support and multimedia
streaming which will take advantage of the high data rates enabled by TI's
EDGE technology. Modular SKY- MAP applications and engines for email, DRM,
data synchronization, Java, and 2D graphics such as Flash-lite and SVG are
also available. In addition, the SKY-MAP solution is supported by SKY's
powerful RapidPLUS(TM) development and customization tools, enabling
handset OEMs and ODMs to rapidly design and test highly-differentiated and
uniquely branded handsets.
Built on TI's successful OMAP(TM) processor technology, the
OMAP-Vox(TM) family of solutions merges both modem and applications
functionality onto the existing OMAP architecture. Additionally, these
solutions share a common software platform that can be re-used for a
variety of growing market requirements, thus saving manufacturers years of
software design effort and bringing overall development costs down.
"SKY-MAP has established itself as a leading software solution on TI's
chipset solutions, and SKY is very excited to extend our successes to the
innovative OMAPV1035 processor", said Naser Partovi, CEO of SKY
MobileMedia. "SKY-MAP provides a single software platform across all of
TI's cellular technologies, allowing applications software and MMI re-use
as TI's OEM and ODM customers migrate to the OMAPV1035 solution."

SKY-MAP is deployed on TI-based production phones today. The SKY-MAP
solution for the OMAPV1035 solution is available for new handset programs
