PHOENIX, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Tilion provides the first Internet-based
service that gives companies on-demand visibility into supply chain
performance. By providing companies a unified view of their partners' and
suppliers' activities, companies can make more timely, informed business
decisions to maximize supply chain performance and efficiency.
The Tilion service gives companies the information they need to identify
and eliminate problems before they have a detrimental effect on overall supply
chain efficiency and, ultimately, bottom-line profitability. Tilion
accomplishes this by dynamically capturing and aggregating data from any point
in the supply chain. Tilion's service analyzes this data and presents
on-demand analytics and key performance indicators in a familiar Web-based
format.
All parties within the supply chain benefit from sharing transaction
information through Tilion's service. Large manufacturers, for example, can
use it to stay abreast of supplier inventory levels and operations, enabling
far more accurate production planning. They can also use it to measure overall
supplier performance and rationalize their supplier relationships to only the
best performers. For suppliers, having visibility into their customers'
operations lets them plan their own operations more accurately, so they can
meet customer production schedules and materials needs.
Unlike traditional enterprise software, which must be purchased, deployed,
and maintained by end users, Tilion's Supplier Performance Management Service
is available to companies on a subscription basis, greatly reducing the time
and cost commitments required for deployment and ongoing operations.
Tilion's founder is Christopher Stone, who previously founded and led the
Object Management Group (OMG), the organization that developed the common
object request broker architecture (CORBA) standard currently used in most
large-scale Java business applications. Stone is also well known for his
tenure as executive vice president of corporate strategy at Novell, where he
served as the company's second-in-command and became widely regarded as one of
the most dynamic and visionary executives in the software industry.
Tilion is based in Maynard, Mass. and is backed by investments from North
Bridge Venture Partners, Venrock Associates, Lucent Venture Partners and
various other investors. The name "Tilion" comes from the eponymous J.R.R.
Tolkien character, described as "the steersman of the moon who creates light
from darkness."
