KNTV/NBC3 Leads the Market with Olympic Broadcasts

Station Captures Highest Audience Share for Top 10 Markets

    SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NBC3, the Bay Area's
new NBC affiliate, today announced the station's history-making ratings
results for the first weekend of the 2002 Winter Olympics.
NBC3 captured a 28.2 rating/48 share for the Opening Ceremonies held
February 8 -- the highest ratings in the station's history. Saturday, February
9, NBC3 garnered an 18.8 rating/35 share followed by a 19.2 rating/32 share
Sunday, February 10. For the first three Winter Olympic broadcasts, NBC3 was
not only the Bay Area market leader, but over the three nights combined had
the highest audience share of any NBC affiliate in the country's top ten
broadcast markets.
One ratings point is equivalent to 24,260 households and each share
represents one percentage point of the total viewing audience watching a
specific program.
"We're all very pleased with the station's market-leading performance in
the Bay Area," said Bob Franklin, NBC3's president and general manager. "Being
number one is a wonderful feather in Granite Broadcasting's cap."

    About NBC3
NBC3, formerly known as KNTV Channel 11, is owned by Granite Broadcasting
(Nasdaq: GBTVK), whose broadcasts reach nearly 7% of the nation's television
households. KNTV shed its ABC affiliation July 3, 2000 and operated as an
independent station until December 31, 2001 when it became the Bay Area's NBC3
and home of NBC quality programming including the "Today Show," "The West
Wing," "ER," "Friends," "Frasier," "Will & Grace," among many others. NBC3
produces "Tech Now," a weekly technology business show that is syndicated in
six countries, and "Wine Country Living," a Bay Area lifestyle show focused on
Northern California's extensive wine country. The station has established news
bureaus in Oakland, Palo Alto and San Francisco to broaden the reach of NBC3's
news coverage.
