New Oce Arizona T220UV Flatbed Ultraviolet Printer Takes Professional Photo Labs Into Lucrative New Markets

Also Demonstrated at PMA: The Oce LightJet(R) 430 Photo Laser Printer,
Offering the Best Image Quality at the Fastest Speed for the Lowest Cost Per
                            Print in the Industry

LAS VEGAS, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Oce (Nasdaq: OCENY) is
demonstrating two digital printers at the Photo Marketing Association
International's annual convention that can help professional photo labs expand
into new markets and improve their profitability. This is the first showing
of the Oce Arizona T220UV flatbed ultraviolet inkjet printer to the
professional photographic and digital imaging markets. Oce is also
demonstrating the market-leading Oce LightJet 430 photo laser printer. No
other large format color printer prints better or faster for less.

Oce Arizona T220UV: Flatbed Inkjet Printer Images Directly onto Rigid and
Flexible Substrates
Many photo and imaging labs are looking to diversify into new markets to
offset the decline in photo-based revenues. The Oce Arizona T220UV is a
digital printing system that offers these businesses a cost effective solution
to penetrate both the indoor and outdoor durable graphics markets.
The Oce Arizona T220UV is a flatbed digital printer that uses piezo
printing technology and UV curable inks to produce outdoor-durable output. It
can print directly onto rigid and flexible substrates up to 62" wide x 120"
long x 2" thick. It is ideal for low- to mid-volume production runs that
require high quality output on a variety of rigid and flexible substrates.
The Oce Arizona T220UV holds substrates stationary on a flat vacuum table
while the print head assembly moves across the table to create the print,
eliminating image skew problems associated with manual-fed systems. It can
print full bleeds, saving time and labor costs in finishing. There is no
minimum print size, which eliminates the need to use more material than
necessary.
The Oce Arizona T220UV is a complementary product to the Oce Arizona T220,
which uses solvent-based inks. Each is designed to deliver specific benefits
to users based on their application requirements. For those customers
preferring UV curable printing technology, the Oce Arizona T220UV offers the
following benefits:

-- Higher Ink Saturation. UV curable inks offer greater saturation with
less ink than solvent based inks because they cure into a solid, more
opaque mass, resulting in images that often appear deeper with a rich,
dense color. Crisp images are possible on a wide range of substrates.

-- Faster Curing. UV curing relies on polymerization instead of
evaporation. UV inks can be cured in as little as 1 to 3 seconds,
requiring less dwell time under the drying source to dry or cure.

-- Reduced Maintenance Requirements. Because of the fast curing of UV
inks and improved maintenance routines, manual maintenance functions
        are significantly reduced.

-- Reduced Environmental Impact. UV curable inks do not produce volatile
organic compound (VOC) emissions like solvent-based inks. In
addition, UV cured inks generate almost no odor.

Oce ColorBlend(TM) technology is included, which adds light cyan and light
magenta to achieve a wider color gamut, smoother mid-tones, and an apparent
resolution of 600 dpi. With four print heads per color, the Oce Arizona
T220UV can achieve print speeds of up 170 square feet per hour in four-pass
mode and up to 90 square feet per hour in eight-pass mode. The z-axis adjusts
to accommodate media up to 2 inches thick and ensures proper head height for
optimal printing.
The Oce Arizona T220UV can print directly onto a variety of uncoated rigid
or flexible substrates such as foam-core style mounting board, polyvinyl
chloride (PVC) sheets, styrene, aluminum-plastic composites, vinyl, and more.
It is ideal for producing exhibit graphics, point-of-purchase displays,
construction signage, and indoor and outdoor advertising.
Support for digital die cutting workflow is available for the Oce Arizona
T220UV with the purchase of Onyx ProductionHouse(TM) or Onyx PosterShop(R)
Color Production Software version 6.0 and the i-cut(R) workflow add-on module
from Onyx Graphics. i-cut, an automated digital cutting system from Mikkelsen
Graphic Engineering Inc., reads cutter marks placed by the Onyx software and
automatically cuts where specified, reducing manual labor in the finishing
process.
Production shipments of the Oce Arizona T220UV will begin in Q2-2004 in
the U.S. The printer will carry a list price of $199,995 in the U.S. Oce
Arizona 7400UV inks, designed for use specifically with the Oce Arizona
T220UV, will be available from Oce Imaging Supplies. Media will be available
from existing sources. The Oce Arizona T220UV requires Onyx ProductionHouse
or Onyx PosterShop Color Production Software version 6.0 or later.

Oce LightJet(R) 430 Sets the Standard for Large Format Photographic
Display Images
No other printer can match the Oce LightJet printer's combination of
quality, speed and affordability. Its image quality is the gold standard --
Oce LightJet prints have been used by DIMA as the "match-this" print for their
annual printer shoot-out. With print speeds of up to 430 square feet per
hour, the Oce LightJet 430 offers the best price/performance ratio among large
format photo printers for production graphics shops that require high
throughput and exceptional quality prints.
The Oce LightJet 430 does not compromise on quality, maintaining an
apparent resolution of 4,000 dpi regardless of print speed. It uses three
lasers to image photographic media from Agfa, Fuji, Ilford and Kodak, some of
which carries the manufacturer's guarantee of archival quality that is
colorfast for 50 to 100 years. Since photo materials offer archival
permanence and resist fading, Oce LightJet prints are ideal for applications
such as backlit graphics, tradeshow displays, point-of-purchase posters, and
fine art photography.
The Oce LightJet 430 offers the flexibility of two resolutions: 200 and
300 dpi. A 50.5-inch by 120.5-inch print is completed in as little as 5.8
minutes at 200 dpi. Its continuous tone output, which has no dots, has an
apparent resolution of 4,000 dpi. The Oce LightJet 430 supports available
photographic roll media in 30-, 32-, 40- and 50-inch widths.
The internal drum architecture used in all Oce LightJet printers
guarantees a consistent, highly accurate, imaging plane. This architecture
ensures that the media remains stationary during the imaging process.
Internal drum architecture ensures the exposure timing (the amount of time the
spot exposes a specific position on the media), the spot size, distance
between adjacent spots, and spot intensity are always exactly the same. This
geometric accuracy has made Oce LightJet printers the leading name in remote
sensing worldwide, with units placed in intelligence agencies, military and
aerospace facilities.
Another major advantage of the Oce LightJet 430 is the ability to load and
unload both exposed and unexposed media from the same side of the unit, which
makes media changes easy. This design eliminates the need for the operator
to travel from one end of the printer to the other for media loading or
unloading, which can be difficult when carrying a large roll of media in the
extremely low light conditions of a darkroom. The Oce LightJet 430 measures
just 88 inches wide by 67 inches high by 63 inches deep, requiring a room size
of only 15 feet by 11 feet with the back of the unit only 6 inches from a
wall.
The Oce LightJet 430 has won more awards than any other product in its
category:  Winner DIMA Shoot-Out 2001 and 2002; DPI Product of the Year 2001;
COMFOT Mexico Shoot-Out 2001; Photographic Processing Top Product 2001 and
2002.
