Industry-Leading Solutions Selected by WiMAX Service Providers; Set the Bar
for WiMAX Service Control Innovation
BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Bridgewater Systems
(TSX: BWC) today announced it has been selected by seven WiMAX service
providers to provide a range of service control solutions, underscoring the
company's leadership in delivering carrier-grade solutions that help
service providers accelerate and derisk WiMAX deployments, differentiate
services, and merchandize their broadband infrastructure investment.
To date, Bridgewater has been selected by seven WiMAX service providers
around the world, including two Tier 1 North American service providers,
and is actively involved in more than 12 WiMAX trials.
The Bridgewater Systems(TM) service control solutions leverage a
dynamic view of each subscriber and their present "context" -- the network
they are on, the device they are using, the quality of service of the
network, as well as their subscriber profile showing their subscription
level, historical usage patterns and other parameters. This provides
operators with the tools they need to support key WiMAX applications such
as over the air provisioning, lawful intercept, and subscriber service
control across networks.
These solutions include broad support for fixed and mobile WiMAX,
including support for WiMAX Forum(R) standards to ensure interoperability.
As a principal member of the WiMAX Forum driving standards development
around AAA and policy, Bridgewater is well positioned to bring these
insights to customers to ensure fast deployments.
The Bridgewater(R) WiMAX solutions are access network and equipment
vendor agnostic, enabling service providers to easily deploy and provide
concurrent support of mixed network environments:
Network Access Control -- AAA Service Controller is a carrier-grade
authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA) solution for fixed and
mobile WiMAX deployments, fully compliant with the WiMAX Forum's NWG Stage
3 Release 1.0.0 specification, and supporting a broad range of functions
including EAP authentication methods and mobile IP and key derivation
required for mobile WiMAX.
Subscriber service control -- With a common subscriber policy
repository serving all access networks, service providers can create a
unified view of subscribers, accelerate time to market for new services,
and realize operational efficiencies by eliminating the need to reprovision
subscribers as new access technologies such as WiMAX are introduced.
Over-the-air provisioning support -- As subscribers come online with a
new WiMAX device, Bridgewater leverages unique dynamic information about
the subscriber -- device type, location, subscription level -- to enable
device provisioning over their air that reduces service turnup costs and
enables immediate subscriber access to WiMAX services. This solution also
enables firmware over the air (FOTA), allowing service providers to easily
manage ongoing and frequent updates to new WiMAX device firmware, and
improve subscriber satisfaction by making the most current device
innovations available to them seamlessly.
Lawful Intercept -- WiMAX networks create challenges for traditional
lawful intercept solutions in that encryption exists to hide the identity
of the subscriber or user. Bridgewater derives and maintains accurate
subscriber context information -- such as IP address, pseudo identity and
location in real time -- and maps this information to a subscriber profile,
enabling a lawful intercept to occur over WiMAX networks.
Concurrent Support for Fixed and Mobile WiMAX -- Bridgewater WiMAX
solutions enable service providers to provide a seamless transition from
fixed to mobile WiMAX minimizing disruption to existing subscriber
management systems.
Prepaid and Postpaid Accounting Mediation -- Bridgewater solutions
captures, formats, and processes subscriber usage data across multiple
access technologies to support prepaid and postpaid charging applications.
"Bridgewater has emerged as the leading provider of WiMAX service
control -- a critical capability for delivering a rich subscriber
experience that drives competitive differentiation and profitability," said
Farshid Mohammadi, vice president of product line management for
Bridgewater Systems. "The significant traction we're enjoying with WiMAX
service providers demonstrates Bridgewater's leadership in unique service
control solutions. Our ability to enable innovative light-touch
provisioning of users and devices is an important milestone and a key
enabler for new open network business models and services."
In addition to Bridgewater's extensive and proven interoperability with
a broad range of OSS/BSS, network and application platform vendors,
Bridgewater is building a rich WiMAX interoperability ecosystem with device
management platform vendors, network and RAN equipment vendors. This
interoperability enables service providers to build best of breed WiMAX
networks based on their choice of equipment and software providers,
providing a future proof solution.
Bridgewater has established channel partnerships for the company's
WiMAX solutions:
-- Motorola, Inc. will incorporate and distribute the Bridgewater Systems
AAA Service Controller as a key component in Motorola's WiMAX
infrastructure solutions.
-- Alvarion will offer Bridgewater's proven AAA Service Controller as part
of its all-IP 4Motion(TM) WiMAX solution.
-- Nortel is integrating the Bridgewater Systems market-leading AAA
Service Controller as part of their comprehensive mobile WiMAX
solution.
