Surf's Multimedia Processing Platforms, Based on TI's TNETV3020 Platform,
Provide Excellent Cost-Performance for Converged Telecom Applications
YOKNE'AM, Israel, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- SURF Communication Solutions
("Surf"), a leading provider of high-capacity multimedia processing boards
and chips for the telecommunication infrastructure field, today announced
it is leveraging Texas Instruments' high performance TNETV3020six-core
digital signal processor (DSP) to promote the development of open
architecture, multimedia processing solutions for telecom applications.
Surf has integrated TI's DSP into its advanced mezzanine card (AMC), PCI
Express card, and chip- level solution to support the development of
multimedia gateways and servers that deliver video, voice, fax and modem
over mobile and wireline networks.
Surf's multimedia processing package enables simultaneous support for
all types of media -- video, voice, fax and modem -- on a single DSP. TI's
TNETV3020 DSP provides high performance with low power consumption and a
small footprint. The combined solution offers impressive processing
performance for video codecs, such as H.264, alongside a large amount of
voice channel instances.
"The low power consumption, small footprint and exceptional processing
performance of TI's TNETV3020 provide telecom equipment manufacturers with
the highest performance/density ratio available," stated Ofer Talmor,
Product Marketing Manager at Surf Communication Solutions. "This makes the
TNETV3020 DSP on Surf's multimedia processing platforms the most optimized
solution for development of voice and video telecom applications. The fact
that customers can choose to use the TNETV3020 DSP-based solution within
Surf's cards or as chip-level provides plenty of opportunities to build
heavy duty media processing products using the best available building
blocks."
Both the SurfRider/AMC(TM) mezzanine card and the SurfExpress/PCIe(TM)
board feature a modular plug-in that carries up to four pairs of DSPs. The
resulting eight multicore DSPs per board delivers unprecedented price
performance, ideal for converged distribution of video and voice for a wide
variety of telecom applications, including voice and video gateways, MMSC
content adaptation engines, and multimedia servers.
"The advanced set of communication peripherals in the TNETV3020, like
Telecom Serial Interface Ports (TSIP) and Gigabit Ethernet, along with the
outstanding processing performance and low power consumption per channel,
make it the ideal platform for TDM and IP-based systems," said John
Smrstik, manager of TI's high density core networks group. "Coupled with
Surf's ability to process video, voice, and data simultaneously, this
combined solution will reduce time-to-market for OEMs building fixed and
mobile media gateways, and transcoding applications."
The combined solution is currently available for select customers, and
can be seen at the Surf stand 2.J42 at the Mobile World Congress, taking
place from Feb. 11-14 in Barcelona.
