GeoTrust Expands Code Signing Offerings to Include Certificates for Microsoft Authenticode and Sun Java Applications

Trusted Certificate Provider Meets Increasing Demand for Verified Code with
Certificates for Web- and PC-based Applications

SAN JOSE, Calif., RSA Conference, Booth #1137, Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ --
GeoTrust, Inc., the leader in identity verification, credentialing and
validation solutions, today announced two new code signing certificate
offerings to help application developers digitally sign and ensure secure
transmission of code over public and private networks. Building on the
company's already broad line of digital certificate and code signing
offerings, including a code signing service for the Microsoft Windows Mobile
environment, GeoTrust is now offering certificates that authenticate,
digitally sign and ensure the integrity of code for developers of Microsoft
Authenticode and Sun Java applications.
"In our software-centric environment, code is increasingly being developed
by offshore developers, consultants and remote employees," stated Neal
Creighton, chief executive officer of GeoTrust. "Digitally signing code
provides powerful security checks for businesses, developers and consumers --
as well as ensuring that applications distributed over networks are secure."
Market research firm IDC forecasts that the total number of professional
software developers worldwide will grow at a compound annual growth rate of
9.8% between 2003 and 2008, reaching 14.9 million in 2008. In this
environment, ensuring the identity of software developers is crucial to
prevent fraudulent and malicious code from being distributed.
GeoTrust code signing certificates allow developers to add their 'digital
signature' to code before it is submitted or transmitted over a network. This
helps ensure the integrity of software and prevents malicious code from being
distributed, by verifying the developer's identity and ensuring that the
content has not been altered since it was signed. When issuing code signing
certificates, GeoTrust verifies that the developer is tied to a legitimate
organization and that the individual is authorized to sign code on behalf of
that organization. Using a GeoTrust code signing certificate, an application
developer can sign an unlimited number of applications within the
certificate's validity period.
Developers of core components of the Microsoft operating system -- .exe,
.cls, .dll -- and developers of browser-based Java applications that may be
deployed stand-alone or in browsers, can now use a GeoTrust certificate to
sign the code they create, allowing end users to validate the author of the
code and verify that the code has not been altered in transmission.

    Availability
GeoTrust Code Signing Certificates, valid for one- to three-years, are
available immediately from GeoTrust's retail website. Additional information
