RSA Security partners with Diversinet to deliver industry's leading two-factor
authentication solution to cell phones, PDAs and PCs everywhere
RSA CONFERENCE, SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Supporting its drive to bring flexibility and choice in strong authentication
to consumers, businesses and partners, RSA Security Inc. (Nasdaq: RSAS) today
announced a technology licensing deal with Diversinet Corp.
(OTC Bulletin Board: DVNTF) that will enable easy, over-the-air provisioning
of the RSA SecurID(R) two-factor authentication solution to a broad range of
cell phones, PDAs and PC platforms.
Under the terms of the deal, which includes licensing, development and
revenue-sharing components, RSA Security will license and market Diversinet's
mobile device-based software tokens and provisioning services through an OEM
agreement. The Diversinet MobiSecure soft token suite and Diversinet's
MobiSecure Authentication Service Center (MASC) will be integrated into RSA
Security's products and services, enabling the downloading, provisioning, and
management of all RSA Security's mobile and PC-based soft tokens.
"Whether you are a consumer looking to conduct business online with
confidence, or a CIO wanting to provide stronger authentication to a wide user
population, convenience and cost are key considerations," comments Art
Coviello, president and CEO at RSA Security Inc. "Our strategic partnership
with Diversinet facilitates the removal of barriers to deployment and
ease-of-use, allowing service providers and businesses to deliver robust
identity protection straight into the pockets of end-users and employees --
seamlessly, efficiently, and simply."
Over-the-air provisioning helps businesses control costs by allowing them
to leverage existing hardware devices -- such as cell phones, PDAs and PCs --
for the mass deployment of strong authentication technology. In this way, the
convergence of identities can be managed by enabling consolidated devices to
support a range of capabilities, while simultaneously ensuring a convenient
experience for the end-user who is not required to carry another device.
For consumers, the possibility of being able to strongly authenticate to
various Web sites and other applications using a wide range of mobile devices
they already carry opens the door to genuine ease-of-use and greater
confidence in transacting online.
Diversinet has an existing suite of software tokens which RSA Security
will use to extend its own portfolio of soft tokens to include the Symbian,
J2ME and Brew platforms. Further, Diversinet will be among the first vendors
to implement RSA Security's proposed CT-KIP (Cryptographic Token Key
Initialization Protocol) standard for secure seed generation. CT-KIP is one of
the Company's One-Time Password Specifications (OTPS), produced in cooperation
with secure systems developers and designed to simplify integration and
management of strong authentication technology into secure applications, and
to enhance the user experience of this technology.
"This agreement will enable our customers to wirelessly deliver strong
authentication technology to consumer-friendly platforms in a low-cost manner
-- a critical step towards facilitating the widespread adoption that
businesses in all sectors are seeking among their partners, employees and
customers," said Mr. Coviello.
