Sipex Offers Multiple Fab Sources for its Products
MILPITAS, Calif., Feb. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --In today's environment
sole-sourced analog products are mission critical to customers' products.
Sipex (OTC: SIPX.PK) is taking security of supply very seriously. "All of our
products will have second-source fabrication sourcing by the end of the third
quarter," said Ed Lam, Senior VP of Marketing at Sipex. "Our engagements with
market makers require us to provide this security. It is our desire to support
customers better than any other analog semiconductor supplier."
This commitment to customers is the essence of the "Solved by Sipex"
moniker that the company has embraced. Customer support, both technically and
for business reasons, is a key driver of the company's transformation.
Sipex announced moving to a fabless model in the third quarter of 2005.
Their partner, Silan IC, is located in Hangzhou, China. The company has
recently engaged with Episil Technologies, Inc. in Hsinchu, Taiwan to supply
additional power and interface products. This provides two wafer sources for
the majority of the power and interface products. The more advanced power and
optical products are manufactured at Polar Semiconductor, Inc. in Bloomington,
Minnesota and Jazz Semiconductor in Newport Beach, California. Polar recently
transferred its technology to Jazz. This provides an additional source for
critical new products such as the SP6685 LED Driver for Camera Flash currently
being ramped into production at leading handset manufacturers.
"Our low cost commodity strategy has its foundation of low cost
manufacturing out of Greater China," said Joel Camarda, Senior VP of
Operations for Sipex. "Our more advanced proprietary products are currently
being manufactured at Polar and will also be available from Jazz."
Sipex ships over 60 million units per quarter into many significant end
markets that require security of supply. Their process needs vary from pure
Bipolar to more advanced BiCMOS technology.
