New Product Architecture Simplifies and Consolidates
Management for Larger Enterprises
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- RSA Conference, Booth #202 --
Sophos, a global leader in network security, today announced major advances to
its enterprise-class product line. Offering gateway, server and endpoint
protection, the launch of Sophos enterprise solutions introduces Genotype(TM)
detection technology, a method of using forensic analysis to identify
suspicious patterns and characteristics that are unique to either a virus
family or a spam campaign. By analyzing these Genotype(TM) patterns, Sophos
reduces exposure to new unidentified threats and unwanted content.
The releases also incorporate new architecture to address the security
needs of medium-to-large enterprises, which inevitably have complex IT
infrastructures. Sophos's new easy-to-use management tools integrate updating
and reporting tasks, removing much of the existing administration costs.
"Sophos's enterprise solutions are completely intuitive -- we were up and
running in less than an hour. The management capabilities are well-designed,
providing a single point for installation, configuration and monitoring of
Sophos's enterprise solutions, while the enhanced reporting features proved
particularly useful and gave us peace of mind," said Henry Torrance, Lead
Computer Network Specialist at the Department of the Environment in Maryland.
"If I had to sum up these products in one word, it would be 'wonderful'."
"As threats increase in volume, maliciousness, complexity and speed --
spreading between business networks in seconds, the quality of protection is
now defined by early detection and rapid, comprehensive response," said Chris
Kraft, Sophos's Senior Security Analyst. "We are excited to bring this latest
innovation from SophosLabs(TM) to our customers. In both our labs and in
real-world testing, this technology has improved on industry-standard
predictive detection of virus variants, ensuring that threats are harmless
even before they are created." Kraft added: "Overall, this technology,
coupled with major new product enhancements, provides a reliable threat
defense for the enterprise market."
A further significant advance to Sophos's endpoint product release (Sophos
Anti-Virus 5.0) is an improved managed interface in the form of the new Sophos
Enterprise Console. This administration console incorporates a flexible
management architecture for organizations looking to simplify the management
of Windows and Macintosh anti-virus protection across their network of
desktops and servers -- including those running in multiple locations.
IT administrators benefit from a range of features including central
deployment, enforceable network-wide anti-virus policies, and powerful
integrated reporting. With the ability to manage by exception, IT
administrators can identify those computers with non-existent or outdated
protection, remedying potential vulnerabilities quickly and easily.
The email gateway and mail server product line, PureMessage(TM), also
advances integration and management capabilities with new releases. New
features in the gateway product (PureMessage for UNIX 5.0) include a new
reporting engine that provides greater visibility into filtering performance
and expanded, flexible reporting timeframes. Additional features include easy
LDAP integration, enhanced end-user web interface robustness and performance,
native support for the Sun Java System Messaging Platform, and streamlined
deployment. PureMessage 2.1 for Windows/Exchange offers installation
improvements and scalability enhancements.
"Corporate networks have become expensive and cumbersome to manage.
Businesses are looking for solutions that can both comprehensively protect all
points of the network against threats and reduce the complexity of managing an
enterprise's security," said Matt Cain of META Group. "Today's enterprises
are looking for intuitive and manageable solutions that offer early protection
against multiple threats."
Sophos enterprise solutions are backed by SophosLabs(TM), a global network
of virus and spam analysis centers, which provide unparalleled 24-hour
protection against the latest threats. Building upon its acclaimed 24/7
technical support, Sophos is also introducing a premium support package
designed specifically for large enterprises who require even higher levels of
customized support.
The new Sophos Anti-Virus products and PureMessage for Windows/Exchange
will start to roll out at the end of February 2005 with PureMessage for Unix
to follow thereafter. For more information visit http://www.sophos.com.
