Apani Networks Launches New Business Unit to Meet Security Requirements for Converged Devices and PDAs in the Mobile Workforce

Initial Focus on PDA OS and Converged Mobile Devices

    SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- RSA CONFERENCE 2005 -- Apani
Networks, a leading provider of encryption and access control solutions to
secure data flows within corporate networks, announced today a new business
unit focused on their customers' increasing demand for mobile security
solutions.
Apani's Mobile Security Solutions business unit will initially focus on
filling the market demand for security in mobile edge devices such as PDAs and
Smartphones using the Windows Mobile, Palm, and Symbian operating systems.
Healthcare, field service and mobile workforce are target markets for these
new products.
Apani Networks is an experienced developer of VPN clients with encryption,
having maintained a long-term relationship to provide VPN client software for
Nortel Networks and Cisco Systems. Apani recently announced their In-depth
Network Security System, a compliance security tool, for securing and
controlling access to data inside the core network. With the mobile security
products, Apani extends their high level of security to the edge of the
network.
According to Andreas M. Antonopoulos, Nemertes Research, "In 67% of
companies, users will access potentially sensitive information on a PDA.
Additionally in 22% of companies, cell phones or smartphones are used to
access potentially sensitive information."
"PDAs and converged devices are being increasingly used in business
applications. Our focus with this new business unit is on providing the
highest levels of responsiveness to our customers' mobile security needs,"
said Shuichi Ishiguro, Chairman and President of Apani Networks.
In order to accelerate time-to-market and reduce development costs, Apani
has licensed the Security Builder IPSec toolkit from Certicom. Certicom's
toolkit provides extensive security functionality and wide support for leading
VPN gateways including Cisco, Nortel Networks, Checkpoint, and Juniper
Networks.
Apani will ship their first new products from the Mobile Security
Solutions unit in 2Q05.
Visit Apani Networks at the RSA Conference 2005, February 14th -- February
18th, at Booth 836, Moscone Convention Center, San Francisco, CA.
