Journalists' Convenience: PR Newswire Offers Powerful 'Push' E-mail System

    ATLANTA, Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- A customizable e-mail delivery system is
now available to the media, developed by PR Newswire to make newsgathering
quicker and easier, PR Newswire announced today at Editor & Publisher's
Interactive Newspapers '99 Conference.
The new system, called push technology for its ability to transmit stories
from the Internet to e-mail addresses, reduces the need for journalists to
search the Internet for the news they need. PRN E-mail is now available at no
cost to the 9,500 journalists registered for the PRN Press Room,
http://www.prnmedia.com, PRN's exclusive web site for journalists. When
signing up for the service, journalists decide exactly what stories they wish
to receive as well as how and when they wish to receive them.
"For 45 years, the media have looked to PR Newswire to provide them with
information in their preferred method. With the overabundance of information
on the Internet, many journalists have asked us for a completely customized
system wherein they do not have to search for information they need. Our
service sends the information straight to their e-mail address," said John M.
Williams, PRN's senior vice president.
PRN E-mail allows journalists to specify delivery format of information,
either full-text news releases, headlines linked to full stories on the
Internet, or a set of abstracts containing the headline and first paragraph of
each release linked to the full version. Stories are delivered in real time,
up to three times a day or as little as once a week.
Journalists select the stories they receive by choosing industry
categories, subject types, states, stock tickers, company names, or key words.
They also may define up to five agents, which are separate profiles needed to
create combinations of search categories. More than 450 journalists have
registered since the beta version of the push e-mail system debuted in
September.
PR Newswire, http://www.prnewswire.com, remains the world leader in the
electronic distribution of full-text news releases to the media and financial
community since founding the industry 45 years ago. With 29 bureaus across
the United States, five overseas bureaus through division PRN International
and its vast network of wire, fax, e-mail and Internet delivery, PRN serves
the news release needs of public relations and investor relations
professionals worldwide.
