Winter Games Security Enhanced by iPIX

Over 3,000 iPIX(R) Images and Streaming Immersive Video Aid in Emergency
                          Response and Surveillance

SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Internet Pictures
Corporation (Nasdaq: IPIX), the leader in mission-critical imaging, is
providing spherical immersive photo and video technology for surveillance and
emergency response planning at the Salt Lake City Winter Games. Integrated by
both Public Safety Systems, LLC (PSS) and IQinVision, iPIX technology is being
used by many of the approximately 60 public safety agencies that comprise the
Utah Olympic Public Safety Command.
PSS has integrated iPIX immersive imaging into its RAMSAFE solution,
providing law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and the Secret Service,
the ability to conduct a virtual walk-through of every building and room of
the Winter Game venues. The RAMSAFE database contains more than 3,000 iPIX
360-degree digital immersive images, allowing security personnel to "step-
inside" the picture and navigate 360-degrees by 360-degrees to view
floor-to-ceiling and all around each location. The iPIX images are easily
accessed through RAMSAFE's database of aerial photos, floor plans and
architectural drawings.
PSS contacted iPIX last fall to support its RAMSAFE program for the Salt
Lake City Winter Games. Jon Gordon, who recently retired as Deputy Chief of
Police, Atlanta Police Department, is president & CEO of PSS. Commander of the
Department's Olympic Planning Office prior to the 1996 Summer Games, Gordon
oversaw the installation of the RAMSAFE program for the Utah Olympic Public
Safety Command.
"iPIX's technology is an integral part of our RAMSAFE program," says
Gordon. "When used with RAMSAFE, this technology gives law enforcement
officials almost instant access to crucial information needed to support
better and faster decision making, even under severe tactical conditions."
iPIX is also working with IQinVision to provide immersive video
surveillance that is integrated into the RAMSAFE system. The video
surveillance is in use by the Salt Lake City Police Department to monitor
Washington Square, a key public gathering place for Salt Lake City visitors.
The stationary iPIX-enhanced 1.3 megapixel smart camera platform delivers live
180-degree immersive views of Washington Square as thousands of people file in
and out of the area. The iPIX technology allows the Police Department to
constantly scan larger areas than those typical of traditional security
cameras and view in all directions without any blind spots. In addition,
there are no moving parts in the camera significantly reducing the cost and
improving reliability. IQinVision, iPIX, and PSS are also demonstrating a new
wireless 802.11b high-resolution digital network camera solution at the Winter
Games.
"The combination of iPIX, RAMSAFE, and IQinVision's technologies gives the
surveillance team and law enforcement officials much more control and many
more options than ever before," said Pete DeAngelis, president of IQinVision.
"The flexible design architecture behind the rugged IQeye high-resolution
cameras allows iPIX and IQinVision to create custom image-capture solutions
for use by law enforcement agencies, the Department of Defense, and the
military."
"Security at the Winter Games in Salt Lake City has received more
attention than any event in history. We are proud to support these efforts
with PSS and IQinVision and demonstrate the advanced capabilities of our
security systems," said Don Strickland, president and CEO of iPIX. "The same
technologies deployed and validated by the Utah Olympic Public Safety Command
group of agencies, in connection with their security mission for the Winter
Games, are available today from iPIX, PSS and IQinVision."
