A Menu of New Services Allows Operators to Provide the Ultimate Personalized
Experience to Internet-Enabled Mobile Consumers
CANNES, France, 3GSM World Congress, Feb. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/
-- Motorola today announced the launch of Mobile Services Cafe, a new, rich
menu of applications and services to help network operators drive adoption of
mobile data services on any Internet-enabled devices.
Mobile Services Cafe comprises software-based services and applications --
supported by the necessary middleware, architecture and third party content --
designed to allow operators to more quickly commercialize a variety of
wireless data services under their brands. It enables them to offer mobile
consumers a selection of customizable content and services that help transform
any Internet-ready mobile device into an "extension" of the user's personality
and preferences.
Mobile Services Cafe allows the operator to choose the applications that
are appropriate for its business. Motorola will provide installation on the
operator's web site. It is also able to host and manage these services for
them with applications from either Motorola or other sources. In the Mobile
Services Cafe business model, Motorola will share in the success of the
venture with the operator, thereby reducing the potential financial risk to
the operator while enabling it to concentrate on and add value to its
business.
Motorola will supply, deploy and support the technology behind the
operator's portal. Mobile Services Cafe will be offered with a toolkit of
services, including professional services, which operators can use to
customize, install and maintain the solution set they choose.
"Our network operator customers are now demanding solutions that make the
mobile communications experience relevant, easy to use and fun," said Mike
Bordelon, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Motorola's Internet
Software and Content Group. "The Mobile Services Cafe toolkit of solutions
allows them to generate revenue and brand loyalty by targeting their consumers
with customized features. It positions Motorola to deliver, more strongly
than ever, on its promise to meet peoples desire to communicate."
The individual product offerings of the Mobile Services Cafe include
solutions for messaging, infotainment, corporate productivity and mobile
commerce. The features offered by Mobile Services Cafe include a J2ME
download server, a personalization server, multiplayer and single player games
platforms, calendar, bulletin board, a synchronization server, instant and
photo messaging, and corporate data base access among many others. With this
full feature set, network operators can create fun and useful mobile
"experiences" for market segment targets such as youth, business users,
friends and family, and the individual. Also, the selection of publishing,
hosting, managed and professional services allows Motorola and its customers
to tailor the solution to specific market needs.
"Mobile Services Cafe is a good umbrella concept," commented Simon
Buckingham, CEO Mobile Streams. "Motorola has recognized the need for a
strong cross value chain for both operators and consumers. Essentially
through this initiative operators will have the potential to increase revenue
and all consumers, regardless of the make of their mobile phone, will be able
to access exciting mobile applications. This represents a substantial step
forward for the telecoms industry."
