Phil Harvey, President of Adam & Eve and DKT International, Responds to the Recent Decision on Condom Distribution At The 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C., Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Phil Harvey, President of the
international AIDS organization DKT International, as well as PHE, Inc/Adam &
Eve, responded to the recent distribution of condoms at this year's Winter
Olympics, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
"I find the choice to distribute condoms to people from all nations coming
to share in this special event a courageous and sensible decision. Olympians
should go home with medals, not AIDS. While we're working hard to sell and
distribute condoms (over 300 million last year) it's nice to be getting some
help from the Olympic authorities."
One of the largest providers of family planning & AIDS prevention services
in the world, DKT International provided contraceptives to 6.6 million couples
in 2001, preventing an estimated 115,00 infant and maternal deaths during the
year. Since 1990, DKT's family planning programs have provided millions of
men and women with accessible, affordable birth control products and services.
DKT's first program was started in Ethiopia in 1990.
