Breakthrough USB-Enabled Hardware/Software Solution Includes Critical
End-Point Security and Secure File Transfer Capabilities Lacking in Other
Security Approaches
RSA CONFERENCE, SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Authenex, a
leading developer of strong authentication and encryption applications, today
announced the availability of the industry's most secure, flexible and
affordable two-factor authentication system. The hybrid hardware/software
security solution uses a USB (Universal Serial Bus) plug-in device that needs
no special hardware, unlike systems based on smart cards.
The USB-based system also has no inherent PKI (Public Key Infrastructure)
requirements and features simple, centralized administration. This combination
of features makes it ideal for small to midsize enterprises.
"The growing need for strong but flexible security within even small and
mid-size enterprises is highlighted daily in the news we read and the stories
we hear," said Henry Hon, Vice President of Business Development at Authenex.
"Authenex offers the only cost-effective security solution available today for
deployment across any network, regardless of scale. The result is enhanced
protection that is easy to manage and very secure on a company's existing
hardware and network configurations."
The Authenex Strong Authentication System (ASAS(TM)) consists of central
administration software plus individual plug-in USB tokens or "keys," called
A-Keys, to ensure users are who they say they are. Only users who have an
A-Key and know the key's unique PIN (personal identification number) can
access network resources or make Internet-based transactions.
Authenex has also announced the availability of EDSKI(TM) (Exchange
Dynamic Symmetric Key Infrastructure), an additional, complete security
platform that leverages ASAS strong authentication technology to provide
desktop file encryption and secure file transfers. An EDSKI system can serve
as a complement to existing PKI systems or as a secure alternative. It uses
the A-Key to provide support for digital signatures, user authentication and
confidentiality.
The A-Key used by both ASAS and EDSKI is a proprietary, chip-based
authentication token. Smaller than a typical house key, it plugs directly into
the USB port of any personal computer, laptop, thin client or other terminal
device. The system's two-factor authentication -- considered the strongest
approach available -- uses "something you know" (the PIN) and "something you
have" (the USB token).
ASAS integrates easily into the Microsoft ISA Server on both client and
server side. The client-side component is an easy-to-install module loaded
transparently running on the client machine. The server-side component
consists of A-Guard software that supplies a fully RADIUS-compliant user
authentication. The system supports ISA VPN, remote dial-in users and large
user base Web applications and provides for protection from man-in-the-middle
attacks.
Implementing the secure remote access services, even those required in
today's road-warrior business environment, is dramatically simplified. The
Authenex solution is also significantly less expensive than other solutions,
enabling large enterprises to cost-effectively mass distribute the keys to
employees and customers. The injection-molded casing prevents physical
tampering and can also be customized to allow companies to brand the
authentication key with their own logos.
About Authenex
Authenex offers the most secure, flexible and affordable two-factor
authentication system available in today's market. Flexible enough to support
remote VPN, LAN, Internet-based and event-based authentication needs, the
Authenex Strong Authentication System (ASAS) ensures a user's identity before
allowing access to sensitive data, network resources or Internet transactions.
Authenex also offers EDSKI (Exchange Dynamic Symmetric Key Infrastructure), a
new encryption model that combines encryption with secure file transfer using
a hardware authentication token to enable an extraordinarily strong encryption
solution. Together, ASAS and EDSKI provide organizations with a powerful
technology platform dedicated to ensuring a trusted environment for sensitive
information exchange. For more information, call 510-568-6558 or visit
