PestPatrol Launches First Multiple-Threat Security Solution

PestPatrol Corporate Edition Detects and Removes Trojans,
Hacker Tools, DDoS Agents and More

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- RSA Conference -- PestPatrol,
Inc., the leading provider of tools to defend against non-viral malicious
code, announces the availability of the first corporate version of its popular
PestPatrol consumer solution.

    The problem
Trojan horses, hacker tools, DDoS (Distributed Denial-of-Service) agents,
and spyware -- collectively known as computer pests -- can create backdoors
into individual PCs or corporate servers and bypass established security
measures. None are routinely detected by anti-virus software and, since pests
do their damage from inside the organization, firewalls and IDS solutions
don't notice them.
Pests allow unauthorized users to breach firewalls and access sensitive
data by assuming the identity of authorized users. Once this has been
accomplished, unauthorized third parties and disgruntled insiders are able to:

-- Access electronic assets (customer database, financial records,
        intellectual property, trade secrets)
    -- Compromise existing security
    -- Destroy customer confidence
-- Expose the organization to litigation

Pests have the potential to create even greater damage than viruses --
including significant loss of business, legal liability, and public relations
nightmares.

    The Solution
PestPatrol Corporate Edition detects and eliminates trojan horses, hacker
tools, DDoS (Distributed Denial-of-Service) agents, and spyware --
collectively known as computer pests -- through code analysis and signature
matching, in much the same way as anti-virus. The software detects more than
30,000 pests in over 8,000 "families," with more being added continuously. The
software is highly configurable, and can be deployed across corporate
networks, with centrally reported results.
Scans can be scheduled at whatever frequency is appropriate for the
organization's vulnerability level, and, if a pest is found, administrators
may ignore, quarantine, or delete it based on pre-configured settings. The
software operates seamlessly alongside anti-virus and other security software.
Updates are provided twice monthly and more frequently if required.
Says Bryan Gembusia, Information Systems Manager at the Pennsylvania State
Public Schools Building Authority, "I use one of the major anti-virus products
to protect my network, along with one of the highest rated firewalls. I felt
my network was safe and there was little chance that a malicious program could
invade - until I evaluated PestPatrol. PestPatrol found a number of malicious
programs I was unaware of, so it's now just as much a part of my network
security armory as anti-virus."
Adds Pete Lindstrom, Director for Security Strategy at The Hurwitz Group,
an industry analyst group, "With the addition of the management functions,
PestPatrol now provides a solid tool for protecting corporate assets and
reduces the likelihood of liability associated with corporate PCs acting as
zombies to attack other companies."
Over 70,000 individuals have downloaded the personal version of PestPatrol
since its launch in Spring 2001, and CEO Bob Bales is anticipating an equally
warm reception among corporate information security managers. "PestPatrol
fills a gap in existing corporate security measures. Recent NSTL (National
Software Testing Laboratory) tests prove not only that PestPatrol's detection
rate is the best, but also that it offers the most comprehensive protection
against a wide variety of hacking tools. PestPatrol has been designed to meet
the growing need for corporate America to protect its intellectual property
and other assets by detecting and removing non-viral malicious software."

    Pricing and availability
PestPatrol Corporate Edition is available now in four configurations:

-- A traditional site license, starting at around $25/seat and discounted
       for higher quantities
-- A server-only license for server farms and data centers
    -- A portable IS auditor's license
-- A plug-in for Baltimore Technologies' MAILsweeper content security
       solution
