adidas and Salomon Dominate the First Week of the Medal Race in Salt Lake

PARK CITY, Utah, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Two of the strongest brands in
sport have teamed up to win a combined 78 medals in the first week of
competition in the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.
Both brands have been Winter Sports powerhouses for more than half a
century, but when adidas purchased Salomon in 1997, the potential for the two
brands to bring home medals increased significantly. Together the brands
provide the highest level of technical footwear, apparel and equipment and
service for athletes in nearly all winter disciplines.
Here is how it breaks down: after eight full days of competition, Salomon
has racked up 7 gold, 4 silver and 8 bronze medals.
adidas is outfitting more than 50% of the athletes at these Games, eight
National Olympic teams and several sports federations. So far adidas has been
involved in 59 medal wins: 19 gold, 21 silver and 19 bronze.
adidas and Salomon have a tremendous history in winter sports and the
Olympic Games. Salomon, which started making bindings in a small Annecy,
France shop in 1947, today is the world's leader in winter sports and a leader
in the development of progressive sports year-round. Today, Salomon provides a
full range of product for sport enthusiasts, including: technical
mountaineering, backpacking and outdoor footwear; backpacks; alpine skis,
boots and bindings; Snowblades(TM); cross-country ski boots and bindings;
snowshoes; inline skates; snowboards, snowboard boots, bindings, and their
newly launched technical apparel line.
adidas is synonymous with the both the Winter and Summer Olympic Games.
The recognizable three stripes have adorned more medal-winning athletes than
any other sports brand. adidas participated for the first time in the
1928 Summer Games and has been making history ever since.
The 2002 Olympic Winter Games represent the first time that adidas and
Salomon have a combined presence. The historic Miners Hospital in Park City is
the home to the adidas-Salomon hospitality house which is open to the media,
retailers and invited guests. Additionally, Salomon has constructed a
snowskate park on the grounds where the public is invited to try out their new
PP3 snowskate. Miners Hospital is open daily throughout the games.
