emWare(R) Releases Embedded Gateway for PowerPC

DeviceGate(TM)-E Embedded Gateway for PowerPC Offers OEMs a Low-Cost,
Production-Level Gateway Product With Ethernet and GSM Wireless Connectivity

SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- emWare(R), Inc., the leading
provider of remote device management solutions, announced today the
availability of its DeviceGate(TM)-E Embedded Gateway for the PowerPC
platform. This latest addition to emWare's DeviceGate family of products is a
very small, low-cost and extremely flexible embedded gateway that offers OEMs
(Original Equipment Manufacturers) a production-level product for adding
remote management capabilities to electronic devices. The DeviceGate-E for
PowerPC extends the flexibility of emWare's recently announced DeviceGate-E
Development Kit by offering another hardware platform with support for GSM,
Ethernet or serial client communications.

The DeviceGate-E for PowerPC runs emWare's Linux-based embedded gateway
software on the PowerPC-based Setrix S-3720 hardware platform. emWare's Linux
distribution includes open source code and support for a wide range of
peripheral hardware. The Setrix S-3720 single-board computer is an ideal
solution for production-level deployment because of its small footprint
(41/2" x 21/2" x 1"), low cost and flexible communications options.

Embedded Gateways Offer Command & Control Device Communications
DeviceGate-E products provide persistent wide-area connectivity for an
embedded device or subnet of devices deployed in continuous monitoring and
real-time control applications. This persistent connection provides the
immediate, interactive communication needed for remote device monitoring,
diagnostics and service management, thereby helping companies reduce service
calls and deliver more responsive customer support. These gateways connect to
a local device or subnet through a serial port, and to a wide area or Internet
gateway through a standard Ethernet port or modem.

Using the DeviceGate-E for PowerPC allows users to monitor, control,
service and support embedded devices from remote locations using interfaces
such as Web browsers, cell phones, PDAs or database applications. emWare's
DeviceGate-E gateway solution is currently being used in industrial pumps and
pump controllers to help maintain water quality in water treatment systems.

    Getting Started
To get DeviceGate-E up and running in a production environment, design
engineers can purchase the DeviceGate-E Development Kit. The DeviceGate-E
Development Kit, which was released on October 31, 2001, contains everything
designers need to rapidly develop embedded device networking solutions using
emWare's EMIT(R) technology. Customers can also enlist the services of
emWare's Consulting Services team for any aspect of their design project. For
example, customers could commission production versions of DeviceGate-E
running on PowerPC platforms other than the Setrix platform.

After designers have finished prototyping their device and client
applications using the DeviceGate-E Development Kit, their next critical step
is to choose the most appropriate gateway to facilitate device-to-client
communications. emWare's DeviceGate-E for PowerPC provides a very compact,
resource-efficient production platform, designed to give embedded designers a
fast and convenient option for deploying their products that use an embedded
gateway.

    Embedded Systems Conference, San Francisco
emWare will showcase its new embedded gateway for the PowerPC at the
Embedded Systems Conference in San Francisco on March 12-16, 2002. emWare
will co-exhibit with Avnet in Motorola's booth.
