Bitfone Demos mProve(TM) -- Mobile Industry's First Over-the-Air Firmware Update Solution -- at 3GSM World Congress

CANNES, France, Booth #D6, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Bitfone Corporation,
the leader in over-the-air firmware update technology that enables carriers
and mobile phone manufacturers to reduce costs and increase revenue by
enhancing the user experience, today announced that the company will be
demonstrating its mProve solution at 3GSM World Congress. mProve is a
carrier-class software infrastructure for delivering firmware and software
updates to mobile phones over the air. Bitfone's mProve solution is the first
product to update the core operating system and major applications like
micro-browsers, Java virtual machines (JVM's), and messaging applications,
while the phones remain in customers' hands. Bitfone's mProve solution
enables mobile phone manufacturers and wireless carriers to reduce warranty
and recall costs, drive down customer service costs, and decrease customer
churn caused by firmware and software problems.
Bitfone's demonstration of mProve will take place in Nokia Venture
Partner's booth, Hall 2, Stand D6, at the 3GSM World Congress,
February 19th-22nd 2002. The demonstration will feature over-the-air
deployment of a firmware update to a mobile phone.
"The key to success for wireless services is providing a reliable,
compelling user experience," said Gene Wang, chairman and CEO of Bitfone
Corporation. "Wireless customers will always want access to the latest, most
updated features and fixes. mProve meets the demand of wireless users to
update phones in their hands, rather than through replacement or service
center visits."
With the increasing complexity of mobile phones due to new services,
third-party software, shortened development cycles and constantly changing
mobile standards, mobile phone manufacturers are challenged to satisfy
customers' expectations for highly reliable mobile phones that offer the
latest features and fixes. Currently mobile phone manufacturers rely on
retail service centers and product recalls to update mobile phone firmware,
costing the industry billions of dollars annually. With mProve, carriers and
mobile phone manufacturers can reduce costs and improve customer convenience
by deploying over-the-air firmware updates directly to end users.
Bitfone's mProve solution overcomes the technical barriers inherent in
delivering end-to-end deployment of firmware updates and has been architected
to meet the stringent requirements of the wireless environment including:
operating system and firmware code flexibility, carrier-class scalability,
bandwidth efficiency for the constraints of current, 2.5G and 3G networks, a
small client footprint, and complete fault-tolerance to recover effortlessly
from dropped connections or lost power, without requiring extra flash memory.
Additionally, mProve does not require hardware changes on mobile phones and is
easily customized for different network protocols and embedded operating
system platforms. mProve also includes the ability to conduct wired as well
as wireless firmware and software updates.
