TrustID(R) Digital Certificates Now Provide Real-Time Authentication And Access From Any Web Connection

Innovation Enables Users to Obtain and Use Strongly Authenticated Digital IDs
In a Single-Session, From Any Internet Connection

SAN JOSE, Calif. and SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital
Signature Trust (DST), an affiliate of Zions Bancorporation (Nasdaq: ZION) and
one of the world's premier providers of digital identification solutions for
secure online transactions, today introduced real-time identity authentication
and roaming capabilities for its TrustID digital certificate program. The new
functionality was unveiled at the RSA Conference 2002 in San Jose.
With DST's Real-Time Identification and Authentication (I&A), businesses
can now enable users to obtain a TrustID certificate -- and its guaranteed
protections -- issued in "real time." This means a potential customer coming
to a Web site to conduct business can obtain a TrustID digital certificate
during the same session, with no waiting, and begin transacting business
immediately.
Additionally, TrustID's roaming capabilities enable people or an
enterprise workforce to have a virtual "smartcard," providing the same
security strength as certificate storage on a smartcard or token, without the
added expense. This gives them the flexibility to use their certificate from
laptops, remote Internet kiosks and other Internet-enabled devices. They are
no longer tied to their at-work PCs, and companies have a low-cost alternative
to expensive and complicated secure remote access issues.
"Businesses are in dire need of standards like the digital certificate
programs sponsored by the American Bankers Association and the Mortgage
Bankers Association of America for verifying and guaranteeing the identity of
the person or entity in an online transaction," said Bob Lonadier, president
and CEO of RCL & Associates. "DST's ability to combine real-time
authentication and roaming functionality with its TrustID certificate is a
tremendous step toward the general use and availability of digital signature
technology in the business community."
"With this type of roaming technology, we anticipate being able to give
our customers the power and security of TrustID digital certificates without
being limited to a single computer," said Kelly Purcell, vice president for
Wave Systems Corp. (Nasdaq: WAVX). "We have recently seen great interest in
this type of product, and are pleased to now offer this service."
"The commercial advantage TrustID brings to businesses is that they now
have a way to connect directly with a customer online, while guaranteeing that
customer's identity and viability to transact business," said Greg Worch, DST
senior vice president. "With DST's Real-Time I&A, the user can begin trading,
open bank accounts, sign loan applications -- anything -- all in the same
session as when they first signed on. And now, commercial or enterprise users
can have the secure access that digital certificates provide from any
computer, anywhere."
The real-time capability of TrustID is the result of a co-development
partnership between DST and Authentify, a leading provider of Internet
identity management solutions. DST is responsible for the verification and
validation of an applicant's credentials. Authentify's automated
authentication technology completes a real-time out-of-band confirmation
employing an automated outbound telephone call synchronized to a user's online
session as part of the process.
"Authentify's service is the only way to interactively deliver shared
secrets out-of-band while simultaneously establishing undeniable contact with
the actual person involved in an online transaction," offered Peter Tapling,
President & CEO of Authentify. "Coupled to the strength of DST's certificate
process, this solves a real problem for many companies who need more secure
interaction and less "network anonymity" with the individuals with whom they
conduct business. The combination of these technologies is very compelling."
