RSA BSAFE(R) Micro Edition Software Helps Secure Newest Version of Palm OS(R)
RSA(R) CONFERENCE, SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
RSA Security Inc. (Nasdaq: RSAS), the most trusted name in e-security(R),
today announced that its RSA BSAFE(R) Micro Edition software has been selected
by PalmSource, Inc., the Palm OS subsidiary of Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM) and a
leading provider of mobile computing operating system software, to secure Palm
OS(R) 5. By selecting RSA Security as its strategic e-security provider,
PalmSource, Inc. is designing Palm OS 5 to maximize data integrity and privacy
for transactions conducted Palm Powered(TM) handheld and mobile devices.
By using RSA BSAFE Crypto-C Micro Edition software and RSA BSAFE SSL-C
Micro Edition software, PalmSource is creating a trusted security architecture
to help make enterprise customers more productive and remain competitive.
Organizations not only are looking for enterprise applications that give their
customers and mobile workers access to confidential information, but also are
seeking the confidence that personal information, business-critical data and
other transactions remain secure. The RSA BSAFE Micro Edition software is
designed to maintain the highest levels of interoperability between the wired
and wireless worlds while securing constrained devices such as mobile phones,
PDAs, new consumer electronic devices and wireless LAN or VoIP equipment.
"By adding RSA BSAFE Micro Edition software into Palm OS 5, we are
building a new class of secure and trusted devices that will help make mobile
computing ubiquitous," said Gina Clark, vice president of marketing at
PalmSource, Inc. "Security is critical to our continued success in the
enterprise market. We will continue to enhance the Palm OS platform to help
meet the needs of enterprise customers to ensure greater confidence and
broader choice, including technologies such as strong encryption and
authentication from RSA Security."
The Palm OS platform is designed to be a flexible, versatile foundation
for enterprise applications, providing enterprise-class security solutions to
customers and partners, including Palm OS licensees and the vast Palm OS
developer community. RSA Security also helps enable all Palm Powered devices
to function as RSA SecurID(R) authenticators, eliminating the need for users
to carry separate hardware tokens. Used in conjunction with RSA ACE/Server(R)
authentication management software, RSA SecurID authenticators help ensure
that only authorized users gain access to network files, applications and
communications.
"Palm OS 5 combined with RSA Security's strong encryption and user
authentication capabilities helps mobile users realize the trusted e-business
process," said Bill McQuaide, senior vice president of marketing at RSA
Security. "We are excited that PalmSource has selected our new RSA BSAFE
Micro Edition software to help secure its new Palm OS 5 to enable the
development of a new generation of secure enterprise and consumer applications
accessible by handheld devices."
