New Business Unit Head Bring Broad International Experience to Chiron's Global
Vaccine Division
EMERYVILLE, Calif., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ --
Chiron Corporation (Nasdaq: CHIR) today named John A. Lambert, 48, as
president of Chiron Vaccines. Based in Europe, Mr. Lambert will be responsible
for the commercial operations of Chiron's global vaccine business. He will
report to Sean Lance, Chiron's chairman and chief executive officer, and will
serve as a member of Chiron's Executive Committee.
"Chiron's vaccines business achieved record sales and profit in 2000 as a
result of growth in its core business, as well as in its high performing
meningitis franchise," commented Sean Lance. "John's international background
and extensive experience in vaccines development and marketing will contribute
to the continuing growth and performance of the vaccine business."
John Lambert brings substantial worldwide vaccines experience to the
position. As President of Aventis Pasteur MSD, he headed the vaccines venture
formed between Pasteur Merieux Connaught (now Aventis Pasteur) and Merck & Co.
from 1998-2000, following four years as the company's Vice President of
Operations. Mr. Lambert also spent seven years, from 1987-1994, with the
Pasteur Merieux Connaught Group in increasing levels of responsibility,
including Managing Director, Merieux UK Ltd.
Chiron Corporation's global vaccines business, Chiron Vaccines, and its
affiliated subsidiaries (Chiron-Behring in Germany and Chiron SpA in Italy),
has more than 30 vaccine products on the worldwide market. Chiron sells novel
vaccines such as meningococcal C disease conjugate vaccine Menjugate(TM) and
adjuvanted influenza vaccine Fluad(TM), as well as a portfolio of standard
pediatric vaccines, primarily in the European market. Total sales in 2000 grew
$135 million or 65% over 1999 to $344 million. Chiron Vaccines' pipeline
includes novel vaccines to treat HIV, hepatitis C, meningococcal B and
H. pylori.
