3D Software Created by pmG Worldwide Narrows the Convergence Gap
Between Studio and Hobbyist
LOS ANGELES, Entertainment Technology Alliance Expo, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/
-- Last week, "JIMMY NEUTRON:BOY GENIUS" became one of three first-ever Oscar
nominees in the category of Best Animated Feature Film. One of the movie's
unsung heroes was a software program, project:messiah. This inexpensive
($695) 3D animation plug-in was used to create virtually all of the character
animation in the Nickelodeon Movies feature, directed by John A. Davis.
Created by pmG Worldwide, project:messiah was the first 3D program built
from the ground up for animators and artists. The program's creators (and pmG
partners), Dan Milling, Lyle Milton and Fori Owurowa, spent five years
collecting the wish lists of animators worldwide. "We've created a program
that can be learned and used by hobbyists and professionals alike," says Dan
Milling. "pmG's goal is to make software that allows artists to create freely
and without boundaries, no matter what their budget."
pmG Worldwide prides itself on being a "company without walls," with no
formal offices, three partners, and a dedicated, fanatical core of users
around the world. "We are thrilled to see "JIMMY NEUTRON" receive an Oscar
nomination," adds pmG's Lyle Milton. "It's exciting to see a multi
million-dollar CGI feature animated with a $695 program, and it justifies all
the work and effort we put into creating project:messiah."
project:messiah has also been used on TV series ("Willard," "Ewe Know,"
"Hoota and Snoz," "Spikey Joe's Truck," "Star Trek: Enterprise," "Ally
McBeal"); feature films ("X-Men," "Battlefield Earth"); games
("Mechwarrior4"); award-winning videos (Gorillaz), commercials and independent
shorts.
At the ETA Expo in Pasadena this weekend, pmG Worldwide is exhibiting its
new product, messiah:studio, shipping this Spring. With an advance price of
$1395 and an MSRP of $1795, messiah:studio is a complete production suite that
seamlessly combines an intuitive, feature-rich 3D animation program, a
world-class renderer, and a developers kit that allows animators, studios and
third-party developers to easily create their own extensions and plugins.
According to pmG's Fori Owurowa, "From a convergence standpoint, both
project:messiah and messiah:studio have radically narrowed the gap between the
Hollywood mega-studio and the garage enthusiast, simply by virtue of its cost,
which is about a tenth of comparable programs. messiah was created for
artists who want to achieve their visions in the easiest and quickest way."
