Nepal's First Winter Olympic Appearance Inspires;
Promotes Cross-Cultural Communication
SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
In the spirit of celebrating the Salt Lake 2002 Winter Olympics,
TenFold Corporation (Nasdaq: TENF) hosted the Winter Olympics delegation from
Nepal at a special dinner event on Friday, February 15. Five members of the
Nepalese Olympic Delegation along with 12 TenFold representatives attended the
dinner.
This is the first time in Olympic History that Nepal has sent a delegation
to the Winter Olympics. Cross-country skier Jayaram "Jay" Khadka of Nepal put
in a personal-best performance of just 18 minutes behind the gold-medallist in
the 10K + 10K cross-country ski competition. He attributes his success to the
ideal conditions at Soldier's Hollow -- the site of the competition.
At the dinner, Jay's coach, Richard "Daijhi" Morley, told the amazing
story of how he became Jay's coach and adoptive father. While traveling in
Nepal in 1984, Richard became critically ill. Jay Khadka's father Basu
Khadka, a policeman, ran three days to the nearest telephone to call for help.
Grateful for the life-saving assistance, Richard promised Basu that he would
care for Jay should anything ever happen to Basu. A few years later Basu died
and Richard kept his word. After an immigration battle that lasted seven
years and made headlines around the world, Jay was adopted and became a
resident of Great Britain.
"As an emigre myself, I understand how rewarding it is for the Nepalese
delegation to have a warm welcome in the U.S. They have traveled a great
distance from their homes to participate in their first Winter Olympics," said
Alexei Chadovich, TenFold's Senior Vice President of Development and an
attendee at the welcome dinner. "TenFold has a very diverse workforce,
representing many countries from across the globe. Our contact and growing
friendship with Nepal is sure to further enrich all of us at TenFold."
Other members of the Nepalese delegation include Ben Joel, the attache who
was responsible for logistics for the Delegation; Rajesh Bajracharya who is
the chef de mission or liaison for the delegation; and Mr. and Mrs. Dhruba
Pradhan, the Secretary General for the Nepal Olympic Committee.
"Spending an evening with Jay and the Nepalese delegation was an awesome
experience," said TenFold's Sally White, who was an Olympic torchbearer and
carried the placard for the Nepalese delegation during the opening ceremonies.
"When I spoke with them after dinner, they said they had a great time meeting
and talking with all of the TenFold people, and hope that they can host a
TenFold visit in Kathmandu. They felt very welcome and appreciated the
support and good wishes from all the folks at TenFold."
For their efforts on behalf of the delegation, Mr. and Mrs. Dhruba Pradhan
presented Nancy with a map of Nepal and Sally with a traditional Nepalese
beaded necklace and an Interactive CD of Nepal.
