QPX anomaly is coincident with MegaTEM/VTEM airborne geophysical anomaly
VANCOUVER, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - First Narrows Resources Corp.
(TSX-V: UNO) ("First Narrows" or the "Company") is pleased to report that a
significant QPX zinc-lead-copper-silver soil geochemical anomaly has been
identified coincident with a MegaTEM II/VTEM anomaly (anomaly No. CNW-31)
located on its Chester North property. The Chester project is located 53 km
west of the City of Miramichi, New Brunswick.
Soil samples were taken along a line over anomaly CNW-31 at 50 meter
intervals and analyzed using the QPX geochemical method. A distinct
multi-metal QPX geochemical anomaly was located over the MegaTEM II/VTEM
anomaly situated in the cluster of airborne anomalies that extends west and
northwest of the known Chester mineral deposits. The QPX geochemical profiles
for zinc-lead-copper-silver are shown on the Company's web site at http://www.uno.ca.
Although most of the cluster of MegaTEM II/VTEM anomalies lies on the
Teck Cominco Option (see news release of October 1, 2004), anomaly CNW-31
occurs on both the 100% First Narrows owned Chester North property and on the
Hubbards Pond Option AMI claims (see news release of November 26, 2003) in
which the Company has a right to earn a 100% interest.
CNW-31, which lies approximately 1.7 km north of the Teck Cominco Option,
consists of three conductors (see map at http://www.uno.ca). A preliminary
interpretation of the VTEM geophysical data indicates that the central
conductor dips moderately to the south-southwest to depths greater than 100
meters. The southern conductor, which is the deepest, also dips
south-southwest, extending to depths greater than 200m.
The coincidence of the QPX geochemical and MegaTEM II/VTEM geophysical
anomalies strongly suggests zinc-lead-copper-silver volcanogenic massive
sulfide (VMS) mineralization is the cause of conductor CNW-31.
There are no reported historical drill holes in the NBDNRE assessment
files within 1,000 meters of the anomalies.
The QPX soil geochemical and MegaTEM II/VTEM airborne geophysical data,
in combination with new geological interpretations of the area, is providing
the Company with essential information to prioritize drill targets for the
next phase of work. In total, 1,354 QPX soil samples were collected over the
MegaTEM II/VTEM airborne anomalies. The interpretation of the Chester MegaTEM
II and VTEM airborne geophysical data is currently being completed by Condor
Consulting, Inc.
Core analyses from the first three drill holes completed on the
copper-polymetallic deposit last November and December have now been received.
Results are being checked, averaged and interpreted and will be released
shortly. The core assays from the remaining four holes are expected by month
end.
Mr. Arthur Hamilton, P.Geo., is the Company's Qualified Person on the
Chester and Middle River Projects. Mr. Hamilton is the former Chief Mine
Geologist for Noranda's Heath Steele Division.
