McAfee Active Mail Protection Combines McAfee SpamKiller, McAfee
GroupShield and McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator for Comprehensive Mail
Server Protection
SAN FRANCISCO, RSA CONFERENCE, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Network
Associates, Inc. (NYSE: NET), the leader in intrusion prevention solutions,
today announced the availability of McAfee(R) Active Mail Protection, the only
complete e-mail protection solution for Lotus Domino and Microsoft Exchange
environments. McAfee Active Mail Protection integrates advanced anti-spam,
proactive anti-virus solutions, advanced content filtering, user-group based
policy support and centralized policy management and reporting, for the most
powerful protection against inappropriate content, spam, viruses and malicious
code in e-mail. This announcement was made today at the RSA 2004 Conference in
San Francisco.
McAfee Active Mail Protection complements McAfee Active Threat Protection,
which was also announced today at RSA 2004. McAfee Active Threat Protection is
a broad system security solution that combines desktop, server, gateway and
groupware protection solutions to secure enterprises from viruses, worms,
hacker attacks, spam and inappropriate or malicious content.
Viruses and spam are increasingly intertwined. Email has become the
delivery vehicle of choice for virus writers who use spamming techniques to
send malicious code. Both Mydoom and Sobig.F installed applications on
infected PCs that allow those PCs to be later used to transfer spam. With
McAfee Active Mail Protection, organizations can attack the problem head on
and eradicate the growing nuisance and cost of spam and viruses.
"Enterprises have seen spam become a major problem in the past year," said
Maureen Caplan Grey, research director at Gartner. "At the beginning of 2003,
30% of business e-mail was spam, and now, we estimate it to be 55%. We are
seeing spam grow at a 40% compound annual growth rate-with an increasing
amount of it carrying malicious code and scams."
According to Computer Economics, the costs of Mydoom are projected at
approximately $3 billion worldwide, ranking it above Sobig.F, which is now
placed at $2 billion in lost costs worldwide. This puts MyDoom on the number
two all time spot behind the infamous LoveBug ($8.75 billion) from the year
2000. The damage from malicious code attacks in 2003 alone is estimated to be
$12-$13 billion, representing a substantial loss for businesses around the
globe.
"Today's blended threats frequently use spamming techniques, which means
that thorough mail protection is critical to the success of any business
-- large or small," said Robin Matlock, vice president of product marketing
for the McAfee System Protection Solutions group at Network Associates(R).
"With McAfee Active Mail Protection, IT administrators can stop inappropriate
content and spam, increase employee productivity, decrease time spent
controlling virus outbreaks and the drain on IT resources, and quickly
identify system vulnerabilities for a cohesive defense against attacks."
McAfee(R) SpamKiller(R) for Lotus Domino and Exchange has been developed
to detect spam with a success rate of up to 95% right after installation with
a false positive rate of less than 0.05%. This means that companies can
install the product and see an immediate return on investment and increase in
employee productivity. By utilizing five different methods of detection,
McAfee SpamKiller gives IT administrators a proactive and comprehensive
solution to fighting spam.
McAfee Active Mail Protection includes:
-- McAfee(R) GroupShield(TM), which offers secure content protection
capabilities to allow IT managers to set up rules to qualify that
emails are virus free. Undesirable content, such as profanity or sexist
or racist subject matter, can be filtered, preventing legal and
productivity issues that can arise when employees receive offensive
e-mail messages.
-- McAfee Outbreak Manager to proactively prevent large-scale mass mailer
outbreaks
-- McAfee Alert Manager to provide IT administrators with unparalleled
notification to malicious threats
McAfee Active Mail Protection is centrally managed by McAfee(R) ePolicy
Orchestrator(R) (ePO(TM)), a single, easy to use management interface that
easily integrates with McAfee GroupShield and McAfee SpamKiller. McAfee ePO
provides clear, concise enterprise-wide reporting for continuing visibility,
helping administrators ensure that all desktops and servers are updated and
continually configured. With McAfee ePO, IT managers can maximize their
security management investment and lower their total cost of ownership.
