solutions, today announced that McAfee(R) AVERT(TM) (Anti-virus and
Vulnerability Emergency Response Team) has combined security vulnerability
research with its world-class malicious code and anti-virus research. This
comprehensive global security research will provide McAfee Security customers
with resources and solutions to stay proactively protected from the latest
vulnerabilities, viruses, Trojans and other malicious code threats, including
SpyWare and Adware. With over 100 researchers located worldwide, McAfee AVERT

announcement was made today at the RSA 2004 Conference in San Francisco.
McAfee AVERT, which previously focused on anti-virus research, has now
incorporated the intrusion prevention and vulnerability research expertise
from the McAfee(R) IntruShield(R) and McAfee(R) Entercept(R) organizations.
The two research arms, now supplementing McAfee AVERT malicious code and
anti-virus research, were acquired through the IntruVert Networks and
Entercept Security Technologies acquisitions last year. Under the new
organization, McAfee AVERT will add critical information on vulnerabilities
and threats to its renowned industry setting Virus Risk Assessment Program,
currently available to customers through the new Vulnerability Severity
Assessment Program (VSAP). McAfee AVERT will provide customers with an
overview of newly discovered vulnerabilities and a McAfee AVERT assessment on
the severity of the vulnerability. The program's details will be introduced to
the McAfee Security customer base in the second quarter of 2004.
