New Release Delivers Support for Solaris 9 and Oracle 9i to Offer Businesses
Scalable Data Management Platform and Reduced Cost of Ownership
SAN FRANCISCO, RSA CONFERENCE, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Network
Associates, Inc. (NYSE: NET), the leading provider of intrusion prevention
solutions, today announced the release of McAfee(R) IntruShield(R) 1.9 that
delivers a highly-scalable platform for data and information management,
adding support for Solaris 9 and Oracle 9i for the McAfee IntruShield Manager
console. In addition, this release provides enhanced sensor support for
Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) protocol, which is gaining popularity in
enterprise networks. McAfee IntruShield 1.9 expands the support for large
enterprises and government customers that are rapidly deploying network
intrusion prevention solutions. This announcement was made today at the RSA
2004 Conference in San Francisco.
The release of McAfee IntruShield 1.9 extends Network Associates(R)
leadership in providing next-generation security solutions and underscores the
company's commitment to anticipate and deliver leading-edge network intrusion
prevention solutions for enterprise and government customers. One of the top
concerns for IDS/IPS customers is the need for scalable data and information
management. The need to have long-term storage, analysis and archival of
information generated by IDS/IPS products is a rapidly growing requirement
driven by security forensics and regulatory compliance needs. The capabilities
in the McAfee IntruShield Manager enable customers to build the necessary
infrastructure and tools that address these needs. Because Solaris and Oracle
platforms are widely deployed in enterprise-class networks, extended McAfee
IntruShield support for these platforms enables customers to leverage their
existing investment in technology, tools and skill-set thus dramatically
reducing total cost of ownership.
"As the leader in providing comprehensive intrusion prevention solutions,
Network Associates has a strong focus on delivering solutions that meet and
exceed the needs of our customers. Many of today's large-scale enterprises
have extensive deployments of Solaris and Oracle in their corporate
environments, and the release of McAfee IntruShield 1.9 to support these
environments propels intrusion prevention capabilities into a new realm," said
Raj Dhingra, vice president of product management and product marketing for
McAfee IntruShield at Network Associates. "Network Associates is committed to
ensuring that all of our customers are safe from security threats and attacks.
The McAfee IntruShield solution's unmatched network intrusion prevention
capabilities deliver on that promise."
Network Associates McAfee IntruShield solution continues to expand
platform and technology support to enable customers to effectively block and
prevent network anomalies in quicker time-to-resolution, and provides the
necessary tools required for a seamless integration into existing
infrastructures. In a recent report published by Infonetics Research titled,
"Intrusion Detection and Prevention Products," IDS/IPS technology is being
rapidly adopted by companies worldwide, with network-based in-line intrusion
prevention hardware expected to have a growth rate of 140 percent over the
next three years, through 2006.
In addition to the new enterprise-class capabilities available with McAfee
IntruShield 1.9, the award-winning network-based intrusion prevention solution
already offers a robust feature set that delivers unmatched intrusion
detection and real-time intrusion prevention in a single purpose-built
appliance. Current capabilities include scalable enterprise-wide deployment
options with support for tens of Mbps to multi-gigabit bandwidth needs;
virtual sensor technology dramatically reducing total number of sensors
required; complete secure, remote Web-based management; fail-safe and
high-availability deployments; detection and blocking of broad range
peer-to-peer traffic such as KaZaa and various instant messaging applications;
as well as lowest total cost of ownership and compelling ROI.
And, with Network Associates unique Path to Prevention(TM) capabilities,
customers have the flexibility to easily and seamlessly migrate from reactive
intrusion detection mode to complete, proactive intrusion prevention mode at
their own pace and without having to reinvest in new products or upgrade
costs. This unique migration path delivers added protection for customer's
investment in security technology.

McAfee IntruShield, a part of Network Associates McAfee Network Protection
Solutions family of products, is a unique cutting-edge technology that
prevents intrusions "on the wire" before they hit critical systems. Highly
automated and easily managed, McAfee IntruShield is designed with such
flexibility that it can be implemented in a phased approach -- that overcomes
the false positives inherent with today's legacy intrusion detection systems
-- and thus enables you to develop the right policy for blocking in your
unique IT infrastructure. For example, you can deploy in-line to notify and
block known attacks, and to notify-only on unknown attacks. Or you can
implement complete blocking but just for business-critical network segments.
IntruShield is delivered in a high-speed appliance, which is able to scan
traffic and assess threat levels with blinding speed, even on gigabit
networks. It can be used at the edge or in front of key "core" resources.
IntruShield has been crafted to satisfy both the security and network
administrators as it stops a wide range of network attacks but does so with
network latencies typically less than 1 millisecond. IntruShield also looks
for anomalous behavior and includes specialized analysis to find new denial of
service "mass attacks."
With headquarters in Santa Clara, California, Network Associates, Inc.
