Hifn Introduces HIPP II 8155 Security Protocol Processor

    SAN FRANCISCO, RSA CONFERENCE 2004, Feb. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Network security and flow classification market leader Hifn (Nasdaq: HIFN),
today announced the introduction of the HIPP II 8155 security protocol
processor. Continuing Hifn's successful and proven line of intelligent packet
processing security processors, the 8155 delivers optimal price and
performance for IPsec and SSL applications such as routers, switches, and VPN
gateways.
"Hifn set the secure packet processing standard with the introduction of
the HIPP-I and -II families of network security processors," said
Dennis Zattiero, Hifn's network security product manager. "Being the newest
and most powerful member of the HIPP-II family, the 8155 represents Hifn's
ongoing commitment to deliver increasingly feature rich security solutions at
unparalleled price/performance levels."
The HIPP II 8155 performs multi-protocol packet processing for security
protocols such as IPsec (ESP and AH), SSL, SRTP, WPA, CCMP, L2TP, and PPTP. At
multi-gigabit speeds, the 8155 significantly reduces the computational
overhead on host processors in routers and other networking equipment. Hifn's
8155 security processor offers the unique ability to dynamically handle both
IPsec and SSL processing. The 8155 also supports TLS and proposed AES
ciphersuite extensions to TLS. TLS enhances SSL's older key exchange and
message integrity options for even stronger security. Hifn's signature LZS and
MPPC compression engines operate at 3.5 gigabits per second, boosting overall
system performance.
The integrated RISC DPU and Hifn supplied firmware accelerate development
times and maintain host software interface compatibility between other Hifn
HIPP family members. Optimized not only for VPN enabled appliances, the
8155's microcoded DPU can support new security protocols, such as IEEE 802.11
"Wi-Fi" standards, as they emerge. The advanced architecture enables dynamic
processing of both IPv4 and IPv6 traffic flows. For example, the 8155 can
support ESP transforms where IPv4 is tunneled inside IPv6 (and vise versa).
Other optimizations, including on-chip packet RAM, pipelined security engines
with multi-core load balancing, multiple bus mastering DMA engines, optional
session management subsystem, and an integrated Public Key subsection offer
the best price for performance for your IP security application.
Hifn 8155 PCI reference boards and software drivers can accelerate
evaluation, prototype, and development for fast time to market. Customers can
also speed up their 8155 development cycle by licensing Hifn's proven Software
Development Kit (SDK). Applications that require FIPS 140-2 Level 1,2,
or 3 certification may optionally use Hifn Security Platform (HSP) software.
Both SDK and HSP take full advantage of the 8155's features and provide a
standardized interface to the session and key management functions of the chip
while maintaining a seamless migration path for future software and hardware
upgrades. Reference code is included for Windows, Linux and VxWorks
environments.
The 8155 features convenient industry standard hardware interfaces that
enable straightforward integration with a wide variety of network and host
processors. A 64-bit/133MHz PCI-X interface and a 32-bit, 104MHz POS-PHY
level 3 compatible streaming bus interface provide a high degree of
flexibility and throughput. The PCI-X interface is also backwards compatible
to the PCI rev 2.2 64-bit/66MHz interface.
The HIPP II 8155 is packaged in a 576 PBGA, and is pin-compatible with
Hifn's HIPP II 8154. Customers using the 8154 can quickly and easily migrate
to the 8155. The power requirement is 1.5 V core and 3.3V I/O with typical
power dissipation 4.0W. Sampling in August, 2004, the 8155 is priced at
$190 in quantities of 1,000.
