CARLSBAD, Calif., Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- John Santhoff, Founder and Chief
Technology Officer of Pulse~LINK, Inc., an Ultra Wideband (UWB) fabless
semiconductor company, has been named Innovator of the Year Finalist for the
EE TIMES Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards. An awards gala celebrating
the people, companies and products demonstrating leadership in the electronics
industry will be held at the Embedded Systems Conference on March 9, 2005, at
the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
The EE Times ACE Awards Gala is a one-of-a-kind event where the
electronics industry will celebrate the significance of its innovators and
recognize their contributions and leadership. A prestigious panel of judges
-- made up of industry visionaries, leading technologists, educators, and Wall
Street executives -- selected the finalists from a total of more than
340 entries in seven categories.
Santhoff was chosen as a finalist for his achievements in the development
of Ultra Wideband (UWB) communications for both wired and wireless media.
Under his technical vision and guidance, Pulse~LINK pioneered the successful
development of a wireless UWB architecture capable of supporting Gigabit data
rates. The architecture, known by the trade name C-Wave(TM) UWB, is capable
of supporting multiple multimedia and HDTV data streams at Wireless Local Area
Network (WLAN) ranges. Santhoff is also responsible for developing and
introducing the Common Signaling Mode (CSM) for UWB, enabling multiple
differing UWB Physical Layers to peacefully co-exist.
Pulse~LINK's unique C-Wave(TM) UWB WLAN technology opens new applications
for UWB wireless communications, notably in supporting CE applications such as
delivery of wireless HDTV beyond a single room. At short-range, it achieves
Gigabit data rates enabling unprecedented connectivity of "video-centric"
technologies such as wireless 1394b and HDMI/DVI.
Santhoff is also the inventor and innovator behind Pulse~LINK's exclusive
development of UWB communications over band limited channels such as cable
television networks and in-home power lines. The UWB over-cable technology is
being designed to support data rates across existing cable television networks
with up to 1 Gigabit additional bandwidth capacity delivered into the home and
potentially hundreds of Megabits of new bandwidth delivered per node back
upstream without any modifications to the existing network infrastructure.
Pulse~LINK's in-home UWB power line communications solution is capable of
supporting hundreds of megabits of data.
Through the use of multi-Giga sample DAC's and ADC's, Pulse-Link is
reducing physical layers to software abstractions for both wired and wireless
UWB communications. The Pulse~LINK chipset solution, which is based on a
Software Defined Cognitive Radio (SDCR) architecture, seamlessly bridges and
integrates one platform for both wired and wireless devices to communicate
throughout the home.
Mr. Santhoff is the inventor of over 100 patents that Pulse~LINK has filed
relating to his innovations in the area of UWB communications for both
wireless and wired media.
About Pulse~LINK
