Astoria Federal to Honor Four Customers, Thank Local Volunteer Fire Departments, Announce Rebuilding Plans for Oakdale Branch

              (Montauk Highway), West Sayville, NY 11799, East of the West
              Sayville Golf Course, Parking on east side of Firehouse, No
              vehicles permitted on firehouse driveway apron

    WHAT:     Astoria Federal Savings Chairman, President and CEO George L.
              Engelke, Jr., will host a special "Putting people first" awards
              ceremony and community recognition breakfast, where he will
              announce the company's plans to rebuild its Oakdale branch
              following a structural fire on December 23, 2004.

              Engelke will surprise four Astoria Federal customers who are all
              local residents, and will honor each of them with Astoria
              Federal's first ever "Putting people first" award. The four
              customers will also each receive $500 in American Express Gift
              Cheques for helping our employees quickly and safely evacuate
              the building, before the fire department arrived at the branch.

              One honoree, Joel Reines, is a member of the SCPD 5th PCT COPE
              Unit. Another is Paul Nelson, a 30-year veteran volunteer
              fireman and a 20-year veteran of the NYPD. Frederick "Hank"
              Cadman, III, has been a customer since 1973 and Teresa Marcello
              has been a customer since 2002.

              Engelke will also extend a warm thank you to the West Sayville,
              Sayville, East Islip and Bohemia Volunteer Fire Departments and
              the Sayville Ambulance Corps., for responding to the incident.
              The volunteer firemen and women will all be in dress uniform.
