DENVER, Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Accelr8 Technology Corporation
(Nasdaq: ACLYE) announced today that it has submitted a Document Type
Definition (DTD) for publication to OASIS for its Extensible Markup Language
(XML) for its newest Legacy Modernization offerings.
OASIS, the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information
Standards, is a nonprofit, international consortium dedicated to accelerating
the adoption of product-independent formats based on public standards. These
standards include SGML, XML, HTML and CGM as well as others that are related
to structured information processing. Members of OASIS are providers, users
and specialists of the technologies that make these standards work in
practice.
The DTD submitted by Accelr8 is the framework that allows companies with
legacy applications using data files to get relational like access to that
data and to make that information available to web applications such as
Business-to-Business pipelines. Accelr8's DTD covers Open VMS RMS. As part
of its role in setting standards for legacy systems integration, Accelr8 is
planning to publish additional DTDs that will allow other legacy system data
types to be readable and accessible under XML format.
"Modern databases generally have XML capabilities in their latest
releases, but this DTD is for those legacy applications that have no existing
XML capabilities," said Kent Gestring, Accelr8's Director of Technical
Services. "Accelr8's DTD for RMS is designed to serve as the basis of XML
enablement of any VMS-based application that stores its RMS data in Indexed,
Sequential or Relative file structures. XML is important to the efficient
integration of legacy systems."
Gestring further added that "the key to accessing the non-relational data
is an analysis of the application, the data files and the data structure to
map the information into a DTD that fully describes the data. Accelr8
provides its Evalu8 Service to analyze legacy applications and their inherent
data files and structures, providing a way of effectively making the data from
these legacy systems available for e-Business applications."
