                              WebLogic Customers

    LEXINGTON, Mass., Feb. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/--
Rational Software (Nasdaq: RATL) today announced support for BEA WebLogic
Server(TM) 6.1 with Rational(R) XDE(TM) Professional: Java(TM) Platform
Edition and a new BEA WebLogic Plug-In for the Rational Unified Process(R),
simplifying and accelerating the development and deployment of Java and
J2EE(TM) applications.
Rational XDE Professional: Java Platform Edition is a new developer
product that eliminates the gap between software design and development in the
Java environment. Rational XDE Professional: Java Platform Edition provides
the ability to deploy Java and J2EE applications directly from Rational XDE
Professional to BEA WebLogic Server for execution. Java developers using the
J2EE platform for developing applications such as Enterprise Java Beans,
Servlets, Java Server Pages, and Web Services, will benefit from this new
capability.
The Rational Unified Process is a comprehensive, Web-enabled set of
software engineering best practices that provide customers with guidance for
streamlining their teams' development activities. BEA is one of the key
industry leaders to collaborate with Rational to expand the Rational Unified
Process into an industry-wide process platform (additional information is
available at http://www.rational.com/news/rup/index.jsp).
The Rational Unified Process' component-based architecture uses a Plug-In
capability that allows teams to customize their development process to their
specific needs and skill set. The BEA WebLogic Plug-In is available as a free
download at the RUP(R) Exchange on the Rational Developer Network(SM)
(http://www.rational.net), an online community and distribution channel that
enables customers to upload and download process Plug-Ins.
"Mazimizing developer productivity is a top priority for today's IT
organizations," said John Kiger, director of product marketing, BEA Systems,
Inc. "With Rational XDE Professional and the new BEA WebLogic Plug-In for the
Rational Unified Process our customers have an easy to use development
guideline to more rapidly build applications for the BEA WebLogic Enterprise
Platform."
"Rational XDE Professional and the new BEA WebLogic Plug-In provide
software teams with extensive support for building J2EE applications," said
Bill Taylor, director of developer marketing, Rational Software. "Rational's
solutions for the BEA WebLogic Enterprise platform liberate developers from
time consuming tasks that can delay software development projects and enable
developers to bring higher quality software development projects to market
faster."
In addition to the solutions outlined above, Rational Rose(R), Rational
Suite ContentStudio(TM), and Rational(R) QualityArchitect also support the BEA
WebLogic Server. More information on Rational's products is available at
