WARRENDALE, Pa., Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Bruce R. Aubin, Retired Senior
Vice President, Technical Operations, Air Canada, and U.S. Airways, has been
named the 2002 recipient of the SAE Medal of Honor.
As the first and only chairman of the SAE Aerospace Program Office, Aubin
has displayed a passion for the breadth of SAE activities while championing
its aerospace efforts. Through his leadership, SAE has substantially
increased its image in the aerospace community.
Aubin introduced the very successful Aerospace Conference and Exposition
which included SAE's largest ever aerospace exhibit; created new conferences
in topic specific areas; expanded efforts in current technologies such as
safety, manufacturing, fasteners, and deicing; and created new partnerships
for SAE with other aerospace engineering organizations.
The SAE Medal of Honor is given to recognize and honor a living SAE member
who has made unique and significant contributions to the Society by
strengthening or adding to its ability to further the purpose.
SAE 2002 President S. M. Shahed will present the award at the SAE Honors
Convocation and Luncheon in the Riverview Ballroom of Cobo Center, Detroit,
Michigan on Tuesday, March 5 during the SAE 2002 World Congress.
Aubin is Chairman of Aerospace North America and Chairman of the SAE
Aerospace Program Office. He is also a past SAE President, and holds the
honorary membership grade of SAE Fellow. Aubin has spent more than 46 years
in the air transport industry, with 40 years at Air Canada. In his last
position as Senior Vice President, Technical Operations, Aubin was responsible
for all of Air Canada's engineering, maintenance, purchasing, properties &
facilities, as well as aircraft evaluation and acquisition. Upon his
retirement from Air Canada, Aubin joined USAirways as Senior Vice President,
Maintenance Operations. He has since retired from USAirways.
